Are you using a lightish lube

Are you using a lightish lube between the freehub and the hub.  A thick one might create some sticktion on the interface.

    The new XTR will be

The new XTR will be reportedly silent.

Just setting up my new Rohloff build at this very moment, at last, I will see how noisy it is generally.

She must have been going a bit slow for you to be able to aggressively freewheel so much.  Think what she would have been like if you’d had to jam on your (squealy) brakes.

    **SPOILER ALERT**

This website WILL tell you the winner of todays stage before you may have a chance to watch the highlights.  This will continue for every stage for the next 3 weeks, and indeed for the next 3 grand tours.  It is what they do, be prepared.

This means that today I cannot view this site until 11 o’clock tonight.

That is a good commute, and

That is a good commute, and that will get some proper miles into your legs.

If you could up it to 2 or maybe 3 as the weather improves, your levels of fitness will soar.

But then that would mean that none of those bicycle owning children had used them in the past 28 days.

    I demand statistical consistency.

    Cycle commuter for the past

Cycle commuter for the past 33 years, in the past 23 years there were only 2 days that I did not use the bike to get to work.  The Cycle to Work scheme has never been for me, I’ve looked into it, and it has become better, but it never seemed about how I rode, maintaining my bicycles.  The barriers and hoops that had to be negotiated, the time limits and constraints, the low amount generally offered, the seemingly opaqueness of the final payment, and the lack of savings, especially for the lower rate tax payer, these all pushed me away from the scheme.  Some people I know have done very nicely from it, and some of those, as they may have only ridden the thing a handful of times in the year still have nice enough bikes.  Not for me.

Did once think about the Cannondale Hooligan or getting something for the better half, neither for the ride to work, but the rules would have allowed either, but neither seemed right.

Good if you can of course, but the people who really need help, the proper poor and hard up, they ride 2nd hand and require cheap as possible repairs, would be nice to help them a bit too.

    Matthew you are far more

Matthew you are far more trusting than I am, when there are so many other competitors out there then bad customer service is a massive decider for me.  Unless the money saving is that large.

It doesn’t take much for me to not use a shop for things, Evans, great sales, love the click and collect and the price match is a bonus.  They installed my ChrisKing Rasta NoThreadset well, but then they lost my Middleburn bullet valve cap when doing a tension and true on a wheel, they had a bit of a look, and were sorry, and even offered a non middleburn replacement, but didn’t get the Middleburn thing.  I want my LBS to understand.  As I say I will still buy from them.

Not as bad as Berkshire cycles, the one in Reading not Crowthorne, (big, big difference), who installed an XT crown race on a set of Kona Project 2s so badly I could see the hammer blows, and it wasn’t even straight, so I had to give it a few taps, but with no tooling marks especially not on the bearing surfaces.  Only for an emergency and if incredibly desperate would I use them for anything.

Now cemetary junction was on my way to work so Berkshire Cycles was very well placed, and I could detour through town for Evans, and then walk up to the uni leaving the bike at either shop.  But no, I need my LBS to understand the precious nature of the bicycle.

I now use AW cycles, out of my way, and not as convenient, and I might have to leave stuff with them for a while, but there is a reason they are busy.  I cannot rate them more highly.

    Thank you for that.

    Thank you for that.

“However, the market seems set to grow, given that the bicycle is still often the quickest way to get around gridlocked areas.”
