UK – maximise motor traffic capacity consistent with safety.
NL – sustainable safety. This has various formulations but probably amounts to maximising the efficient movement of people (and use of public space). This also has to fit in with some pretty comprehensive environmental regulations including maximum noise limits in urban areas etc.
Note that the total NL version is much more comprehensive than “Vision Zero” – which always seems more of a slogan to me…
I think that the UK is using “Vision Zero” not as a slogan, but as a shorthand mnemonic:
- Vision of everyone in a car all the time
- Zero effort to get people to walk or cycle

Well, what a surprise!

I’ve never got the straps on the Cycliq seat post to work securely enough, and much prefer the action cam mounts.I’m fine with using the seat post mount, but it’s awkward to move it between bikes. Since my old Fly6CE broke, I solved the issue by buying a brand new Fly6, so ended up with a second mount.

It doesn’t matter what percentage of bike riders are fools as they’re not killing and maiming people (apart from the very few exceptions), but the fools in cars are destroying lives.

Good luck with your campaign.
Good luck with your campaign.
Have you thought about using a camera so you can report close passers to the police for careless driving?

The Tories are acting
The Tories are acting suspiciously about their wine reserves – first they propose having pints of wine and now they’re delaying telling us how much wine they drank during lockdown (presumably trying to delay until the upcoming general election)

I don’t think we make the quantities (nor the quality most years) for much of an export market. The other thing is that wine is marketed here in a distinct way, i.e. 99% comes in a 750 ml bottle, making 6 x125 mm glasses or 3 x 250 mm. My wife doesn’t drink, so I would welcome a wider variety of sizes, particularly the 375 mm half-bottle which are hard to find, although many restaurants do them. No, I don’t want the sad / single serving bottles the supermarkets do.
The minibar in my Christmas hotel had a tin of red and a tin of white, and you can buy vacuum wine cartons with a tap, but on the whole UK folk play along with the “wine snob” mode, serving it in stem glasses – whereas in France vin ordinaire is often consumed from a Tetrapak carton in a tumbler.
Maybe someone should try offtering the 1pt wine format, see if people in these days of shrinkflation want to buy it.
See! We’re only just considering it and already we’ve got a customer.

So how many bottlers are going to bottle up a special size for the UK with associated tooling / bottle costs? Or will we buy it in std measures and then pour it into smaller bottles here? Yet another one of those Brexit benefit” stories, that while it may be true, is not very likely. Yes it’s possible, but who’s going to do it outside of maybe 3 wine growers in Kent.
Look – we voted for it, so we’re damn well going to sell British wine in pint bottles and then blame the Europeans for not buying it from us (never mind if they do even buy British wine at the moment).

Imagine choosing to vote for a poorly defined option which then led to years of squabbling between various hard/soft factions. Imagine the embarrassment of then not being able to state the tangible benefits of the decision and having to deflect discussions of the benefits by kicking it down the road?
