    With inner tubes, you can get away with slightly wrong sized tubes (e.g. 20-25c will stretch to fit 28c easily and maybe bigger depending on your luck). If the tubes are smaller than they should be then they’ll expand to fit, but may puncture more easily. If the tubes are bigger than they should be, then you may struggle to stuff them into your tyres.

    The 700 number is the size of the wheel (which for some arcane reason means a diameter of 622mm) is confusingly the same size as 29inch MTB wheels. The 20/23/25 are different width of tyres.

    You’re confusing the Alliston case (fixie without a front brake and gave up slowing down thinking that he could speed through a gap and the woman later died) with the Hazeldan case (he used a horn to warn a group of pedestrians crossing the road to get out of his way and didn’t slow down to avoid hitting the one that was using her phone).

    It’s an important part of roadcraft that you should make all efforts to avoid a collision even if you think the other person is in the wrong place.

    You could try wetsuit repair glue – it takes about 24 hours to fully set into rubber. Maybe try that to hold the split together and a puncture repair patch on the inside to ensure that it’s airproof.

    For a base layer, I use a
    For a base layer, I use a long sleeved 100% merino top. I’ve found them to last for ages though I only use the ‘hand-wash’ setting on the washing machine and never tumble dry it.

    I’ve got some arm and leg warmers that I’ve never got around to using, so maybe wait to see if you really need them.

    I opt for long-legged bib tights when the temperature is below around 10°, but the most crucial bit of kit is winter boots (Northwave Arctic are brill).

    A good selection of gloves for different conditions is highly recommended too.

    I’ve got a looser fitting Gorewear jacket (an older model) that I use for rain (though I try to avoid riding in the rain) and also when the temperature drops.

    If I were you, I’d wait to see what works for your style of riding and metabolism.

    I’ve had A&S not pursue a similar case that I submitted a while back. I was going around 32kph (quicker than 20mph!) on a downhill section of the A370 and took primary position to dissuade a van from overtaking just before a rh bend. The double white lines had just started and the van overtook me anyway.

    The officer made the point that video footage is not for evaluation of speed (e.g. that I was travelling more than 16kph) and that he considered that the overtake didn’t appear dangerous. (It wasn’t what I’d deem a close pass so I didn’t raise a complaint and accepted his judgement).

    I think it sounds a bit rude as it’s assuming that they need to be told (despite some of them needing that). Personally, I’d just go through the middle of them as it’s only a second or two and I doubt that level of exposure outside is particularly dangerous.

    ‘On your right’ might be a better call.

    If you’ve got him driving over the solid white line while the lights are red, then that’s an offence. You could try submitting it to the police, but a lot of the time they’re not that interested in minor infractions of traffic law – maybe they could send a warning letter.

    I’d be inclined to submit it to the police and First, if only to get the point across that some cyclists have cameras and know how to use them.

    Avon & Somerset give a
    Avon & Somerset give a similar spiel if they agree with the close-pass/incident being worth chasing up, but they don’t say whether they’re aiming to prosecute or just issue a warning letter etc. They don’t quote any DPA, but say something like ‘as you are a witness you will receive no further updates’.

    I’m no expert, but I doubt that DPA has anything to do with not issuing updates. It’s more likely that by giving details of their intended action, they open themselves up to more complaints (e.g. sending a warning letter when the victim believes that a court case is more appropriates).

    I also don’t see the relation between number plates and data protection as you can’t identify an individual just from a number plate.
