Fees hike at Eling toll bridge approved by Totton and Eling Town Council amid legal advice
Resident Mary Brown said exemption from the toll had been granted 40 years ago by NFDC on the grounds it was “reasonable and necessary” for residents to be able to access services and facilities in the town centre by the shortest available route.
“In that respect, nothing has changed. Parents taking kids to school, people making use of medical services, shops or the library all have to cross the bridge or make a lengthy detour.
“These services are free to other residents of Totton and to make part of the community pay is nothing short of discrimination.”
Resident Graham Gardiner added: “We have taken legal advice and are of the strong opinion that the issuance of free exemption passes is an established right and should continue in perpetuity.”

You wish the car was autonomous, then it would be like “oh, feels like Pops here has mixed-up the gas and the brake AGAIN – I’ll just wait here ’til he sorts himself out. (And not the sort that says “that toilet block looks just like the A6 – full speed ahead then”)

No, because the cyclist had a short-lived medical episode, so everyone agreed to just be grateful that it wasn’t worse.

Bury St Edmunds – Appeal after serious RTC
We had this as a news story at the time, and like the Oxford incident, if this isn’t an open and shut case, I don’t know what is. I do love how the police phrase things:
A Renault Captur car was in collision with the Premier Inn hotel, smashing the front doors and entering the building.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bury St Edmunds Roads and Armed Policing team, quoting reference: CAD 284 of 8 March.

Parents of girl, 15, killed in crash hit out at ‘appalling’ police investigation
Katelyn Dawson died after a BMW ploughed into a bus stop
Yesterday (April 11), following a seven-day inquest, senior coroner Martin Fleming concluded that it was ‘more likely than not’ that the BMW driver, Richard Brooke, had suffered a temporarily loss of consciousness due to fainting at the wheel. He said he had felt unwell and had ‘tunnel vision’ and could not remember what happened after that.
No criminal charges were brought against Mr Brooke following the incident. But Katelyn’s parents Angela and Colin Dawson said the investigation after the crash was ‘appalling’ and that police had ‘failed’ their daughter.
