Yeah, I’ve played in 6 races this year (it’s true, I checked the archive) but it says I’ve used all 8 of my allowed races.
Was deliberately saving 2 for the tour of Britain and the Autumn classics.
    Bah.

    Quite right.
Sorry about that Otis. I did point out the error to the road.cc admins after seeing your post and I think there was an attempt to fix it, but that resulted in a broken link, which is arguably even worse.
That offer actually expired a few days ago anyway. Apologies to anyone that fell foul of the slip-up. If you are still interested in those shorts please pm me via this forum and I’m sure we can sort something out, if we have your size in stock still, that is.
    Hey-Ho.

Nice jersey with all the features but a relaxed fit. Good value too as Endura are big enough now to produce decent quality at a good price. I have had a red one for a couple of years but there’s a choice of colours. The lime green is groovy. And there’s now a Hummvee Lite jersey that is very similar except for being lighter weight, so is nice for the summer.

    Doesn’t sound ideal.
If it’s causing excessive fabric wear in such a short time just imagine the long-term effect on your botty.
Tinkering with the saddle position might be surprisingly effective but sadly all saddles don’t suit all physiologies so you might end up having to accept that the Kurve just isn’t right for you personally, even though there’s nothing actually wrong with it.
Because a saddle’s fit is such an individual thing some Fizik dealers operate a test saddle service where you can borrow the model you are interested in for a couple of weeks before deciding if you want to pay for one. Doesn’t help you in this case but worth checking out if you’re going to look for another model.
Other brands also offer loan saddles, so check with your LBS next time you’re looking.

    Yes, Wilier road bikes start
Yes, Wilier road bikes start being released towards the end of the year so you’d be waiting till Sept/Oct for the next year’s model. You can’t possibly wait that long!
Colour is very important. You’ve got to love it every time you look at it, so definitely get the complete bike and take it from there.
You will of course be out of pocket if you change loads of bits straight away. Personally I’d keep the lovely Athena 11 speed on my nice Italian road bike, but if you must replace it with SRAM then a decent LBS might be prepared to do the component swap for you, assuming you buy the bike from them, at a very minimal cost. Some places will simply charge you for any difference in price between the components you’re replacing, so that’s worth investigating. If you already have some wheels you could maybe flog the R3’s that come with the bike and recoup that cost with a bit of luck.
Or, why not keep it Campy like a sweet Italian road bike should be?

I also scrap my cars when the ashtrays are full. Perfectly reasonable behaviour.

Yep, sit up, head up, heels down.
If you can position your hands on top of the bars, not on hoods, so much the better, as that lifts your body upright a bit more. If it does get too steep to keep the cranks spinning without standing up, just try to keep your weight back a bit and ignore the natural impulse to lean forward over the bars for more power.

    Three nice bikes.
I agree you shouldn’t get hung up on carbon, as a good alloy frame can perform better than poorly made carbon one.
The Roubaix, however, is a well made carbon frame that will out-perform the Secteur in every respect except the price, so if you can really afford it then why not spend the extra cash and get the better bike?
Carbon is different, but don’t panic about it. Look after your bike in the normal way, with regular careful cleaning when it gets dirty or wet, and if there are any cracks or notches you’ll spot them, same as with an alloy or steel frame. No need for professional inspection, unless you actually find a crack or the bike has had a severe impact like in a crash.
Do budget for a torque wrench though…

Trouble is that if you spend
Trouble is that if you spend your days measuring people for millimetre-perfect bike fits then you get used to the idea that anything else is just not good enough.
Knowing your height and inside leg gives a rough idea, which for a comfort biased, long distance bike like the Infinito should be all you really need, but doesn’t take into account your unique physiology, fitness, type of riding you’re used to, type of riding you’re aspiring towards, flexibility, previous injuries, etc.
Also, there is only 1cm difference in the effective top-tube length when comparing the 55cm and 57cm Infinito, making it very difficult to know which way to go from a quick phone conversation.
You could maybe pay for a bike fitting then use that data to buy the bike online.
Both sizes would work for you but of course if you had a bike fit you’d discover that one would work slightly better than the other. That slight difference might add up to a significant improvement in efficiency and performance over a longer ride.
You could maybe pay for a bike fitting then use that data to buy the bike online. Might be worth the fee to get things exactly right.
Alternatively, why not buy a bike from your LBS and get a bike-fitting as part of the deal. That way they’ll set everything up and even change stem and crank lengths if necessary. Maybe it won’t be quite as cheap as buying online, but the added value of the perfect custom fit and after sales support is always worth it in the long run.

If the bike is only a couple
If the bike is only a couple of months old try asking the shop you got it from if they offer a free first service. Lots do.
If they don’t they might still have a look just at the offending brake and adjust/clean it as necessary.
    Worth a try.

    That’s true, Mr Fox,
But an even better idea would be to get your employer to sign up with another tax free bike scheme like Cyclescheme, either as well as or instead of Halfords, and then you’ll have a much less restricted choice of bike shops and bikes to choose from and can go to a proper helpful place and avoid a silly shop that won’t even let you try a couple of £1k bikes out before deciding which you prefer…

    Hi Matthew,
I tried some salt in my eye and definitely had a degree of irritation. Also had some salt stains visible on clothing after the experiment.
Not sure if I need to be concerned or just stop being so pedantic about typos.
    Good, helpful post though, thanks.

Yes, does look like a Croozer Dog trailer. That being the case it’s a nice piece of kit and that’s a nice price.
Have you considered attaching your hound to the trailer hitch while you recline in the back in a mini rickshaw style? That would learn him!
