Havent posted in a while and wondered what everyone thought on this. but I was riding up some country lanes recently and nearly came off due to having to dodge a huge amount of horse manure on the road! Now I know it doesn’t cause any ill envirnomental effects like dog mess, but isn’t there a case for horse riders clearing at least some of it off the road because of the potential dangers to cyclists? And to be honest when walking on towpaths too it’s not ideal having to dodge it, just find it a bit antisocial.

It’s ‘horse city’ at my in-laws; there’s no health risk from horse poo as they eat grass so it can just be left where it is.  I get loads of the well rotted manure and chuck it on the flower/veg beds.  To be honest, on country lanes, I’d rather farmers clear up the roads after they’ve dragged half a field of sticky clay soil onto the road.

I grew up in that countryside and I’m not sure that riding through horse poo is much of a safety issue. Worth avoiding if only for cleanliness, and keep your mouth shut, because of the flies, but otherwise you should be ok.
