I mean … I’m all for that idea, and perhaps this could have been solved with some Chris Boardman-style community engagement process *.  OTOH it does sound like a “we’re not happy because reasons; we don’t trust THEM.  We only want the stuff we want, and we really really don’t want stuff we don’t like”.

    Slightly longer summary:

     – BUT we’re green already!  We stopped a diesel power station from being put next to the school!
     – We have people with disabilities – they need cars.
     – And public transport is crap – so people with disabilities definitely need cars.
     – The council aren’t doing other stuff to make the place better by e.g. upgrading properties. (So presumably “we don’t think they’re interested in improving the place.  In fact we suspect that changes they do want to make may make things worse, by ignorance / incompetence / maybe even design”)
     – We don’t trust the council.  We don’t think the council listen to “the community”. (Reading between the lines – “they don’t give a stuff ‘cos we ain’t rich folks with the right background”?)

    Amiright?

    * Like e.g. he sets out in this video (segment is about 5 minutes but worth a view).  Requires buy-in from the LA, then details being driven by communities – and a kind of public “comment” before any formal change / consultation.  AND the choice to say “no, we are going to do nothing, and we accept the consequences”.

There’s just a bit of road painting left to do now.

I cycled up Marsh Lane yesterday, and went through the bus gate behind the new number 16 bus (temple meads to kingswood via barton hill). So that should satisfy the main B24/7 & Bristol Post commenters that object to that bus gate for being not on a bus route. Right?

Fire engine gets stuck behind east Bristol LTN bollard:

A fire crew got stuck behind a bollard on the way from a bin fire in a block of flats in Barton Hill as they’d forgotten the code to lower it.

I’m quite surprised that the various bollards have apparently remained undisturbed. Some (all?) of them seem to be locked with combination padlocks. I keep meaning to have a closer look so that I can get the same lock for my bike.

    I read that ‘article’ earlier

I read that ‘article’ earlier on.

A lot of people blaming all the cycle lanes for the congestion, as if a 2.5-3.0 feet wide cycle lane (which is what you get on the roads round here, as you know) will make any difference at all when the average motor vehicle is now 5-6 feet wide.

They really honestly can’t see that the problem is “Too.  Many.   Cars.”

Congestion in Bristol is getting worse as locals say ‘just improve public transport!'

I like the cut of Kaylon64’s jib:

    Kaylon64 wrote:
The congestion in our towns & cities has been caused by a massive rise in private vehicle use since the 1980’s coupled with a lack of investment in public transport. The Tories championed individual car transport as ‘freedom’ and had the buses and trains privatised. Now we have mass congestion & high pollution. So the pendulum is swinging the other way with pedestrians, buses & cycling being prioritised. It’s estimated that over 30 million vehicles hit UK roads every day. This isn’t about attacking motorists but re-balancing the system.

That is pretty staggering. The other sixth must have been somewhere else.

    Parents say East Bristol

Parents say East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood makes roads ‘100 times safer’ for children:

    https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/parents-say-east-bristol-liveable-10059949

Several locals turned up at City Hall to speak to councillors about their views on the scheme, during a meeting of the transport policy committee on Thursday, March 20. Many more submitted written statements. In total, 39 of the 62 statements were supporting the East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood, compared to 10 who opposed the scheme.

I think I’d rather be haunted

I think I’d rather be haunted by the ghosts of Edwardian “gaiety girls” than the spirits of Vauxhall Corsas passed on to the great scrapyard…
