A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

Pretty sure you don’t need an

Pretty sure you don’t need an MOT if you are just driving to and from a test centre. Maybe they are making use of this exemption

Good point!, but I think PJ07 XHF would have to demonstrate a booking for an MOT on each day! Joking apart, this one does seem very odd, and I did consider whether they have some sort of exemption for their own vehicles just like Travellers Choice coaches of Carnforth has recently acquired. What they have done is set up their own testing station, which I gather is then staffed by public testing employees, rather than Travellers employees marking their own homework. I can’t see how this could apply to a small garage. The perplexing feature is that this ‘testing station at home’ doesn’t then issue an official MOT pass logged by DVSA. My attention was drawn to this feature by Lancashire Constabulary doing their own MOTs and by this bus’s MOT expiring on 19.1.23. It seemed improbable that a school bus would take a risk like this, so I looked into it.

Van driver freed after narrow bridge blunder in village

Having looked it up on Street view, at either end of the bridge there is a narrowing with 7’6 warnings. I’m guessing that they aren’t the same width on either end.

The most common cause of fatal collisions in Norfolk in 2022 was loss of control (26%), closely followed by failing to look properly (21%).

“We would urge drivers to take care when driving and remain alert throughout their journeys. Take time when making decisions at junctions and ensure that you have read the situation accurately before making your manoeuvre.”

The fact that the police feel the need to give such basic advice to stop people being killed sums up the standard of driving shown by the average driver nicely.

    Although firmly filed under D

Although firmly filed under D for “drivers trying to get out of things as usual”, the modicum of sympathy I have here is that it’s a dumb system that suffers you to go on breaking the rules repeatedly and not letting you know the fact sooner.

Ah, once again, it’s the little man vs the driver-oppressing machine, with his court success.  I wonder what really went on here, how it became a newspaper story/what the pose is all about and why passengers make any difference to following road rules.

He said: “… I can’t fathom why they’ve chosen the area they have for the CAZ, other than to generate lots of fines.

“A clean air zone in a densely populated area like Easton, St Paul’s or Bedminster. But they choose the centre, which is relatively sparsely populated.”

I think the intention was to stop people just driving right through the city centre when all they are doing is driving right through rather than having to be there.

He also feels annoyed that fines were only sent out by the council after the six-day grace period.

Isn’t that what they mean by a grace period?

    Singer wins appeal over

Singer wins appeal over Bournemouth bus stop parking ticket

But Miss he made me do it, Miss.

Drivers and the seering injustice of a parking ticket remedied (but see photo)

Describing his reaction to receiving the tribunal outcome, he said: “It was like celebrating a goal at the football. I was in the office and I kind of fist pumped. Everyone was looking at me and I said ‘I got the parking ticket overturned’.”

Cue: victory for the little man, etc although Leonora 38 has the right idea. See also: 50 kg of equipment, brief, charidee.
