A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

… obviously leading to some logic-bending “look, someone might be breaking the rules … but why should unrelated people die waiting for an ambulance / other drivers be forced to take risks overtaking / people with disabilities / young children / the old/ important deliveries be held up? What about if the person really *needed* to stop?”Meanwhile in NL they managed to have single lane roads where you can’t overtake – by design! For driver safey! And yet the world hasn’t ended. Perhaps an examination of how both situations can exist would enlighten us?
(Of course that would make zero difference to anyone as “but we live in Stoke on Trent, not s’Hertogenbosch”…)

Travel warnings issued as Bath Christmas Market brings thousands to the city
Drivers can expect delays
Travel warnings have been issued for motorists over the next few weeks following the opening of Bath Christmas Market (Thursday, November 27). Drivers are warned to expect delays as a number of roads in and around Bath will be periodically closed, including many around the Abbey, the Theatre Royal and St Michael’s Church.

Castle Combe Circuit Christmas market slammed as ‘such a disappointment’

Stoke-on-Trent ‘pavement parking’ problems raised in Parliament
Concerns have been raised over the impact on parents and vulnerable people
Said the Minister, “This Government recognises that pavement parking can endanger pedestrians especially children, disabled people, and those parents trying to walk with prams and buggies and that’s why I intend to publish our consultation response and announce our next steps for pavement parking policy very shortly.”
Even less legal – this is one of those bizarre historic gaps where is it so blindingly obvious that you cannot drive or park a car on the pavement that no-one thought to legislate for it explicitly. So I look forward to said gap (outside London) being firmly closed.

Here’s a little mystery – a village shop in Cornwall sounding like it’s on its last legs. I was looking for the bit where there was parking charges that could be blamed, or worse still a cycle lane outside.

Imagine how much more motor
Imagine how much more motor insurance would cost if drivers paid for all the damage they do. One incident out of ten, 6% of the costs where a driver was held to account – at a guess, having done the hit, they were too badly damaged to run.
More than £100,000 spent on accident repairs to Hawkenbury Bridge in five years, as calls for reduced speed limit continue

That is an extensive pot-hole – frightening on an usual bicycle – stupendous on a recumbent.
Perhaps overlay some genitals to get it noticed and then fixed? For this example maybe a vulva?

‘Let more children play safely in the street please’
Cllr Katie Collier will put forward a motion she hopes can improve play for children in Worcester at Tuesday’s full city council meeting.
The Green Party city councillor wants to enable more outdoor play, including closing some streets to through traffic temporarily.
“We do too much to make children feel unwelcome where they live- no ball game signs, making it hard for them to play out, prioritising cars over humans and we need to do all we can to reverse that.”

Woman, 102, says Southrepps traffic has ‘trapped’ her
She said: “As soon as I put my foot out the front door, there they are. I just live in bedlam and it’s really dreadful.
“I can’t even get across the road and get to the shop opposite me. I’ve had to have three new front doors because of the vibrations caused by the traffic and the lorries that pass through.

Pleased to see a recumbent
Pleased to see a brother recumbent cyclist looking out for motorists (I guess – he’s mentioning speeds of 40mph which is possibly a little high for most folks on the flat even with a recumbent, but OTOH seems low for motorists…):https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/c2d43wzz2ryo
BBC wrote:A cyclist filmed a long stretch of badly potholed road and warned there would be “a very serious accident soon” unless it was repaired.Simon Mackinder captured the footage on Granham’s Road, between Cambridge and Great Shelford, which he described as an “absolutely important” route close to Addenbrooke’s Hospital and linking a number of villages to the city.

The reason for the absence of town centre Sunday parking charges and restrictions is that until the 1990s, the shops weren’t open, there was very little reason to visit your average Somerset town. It’s a £730k historic quirk .
