Silca’s new electric mini pumps have sold out almost instantly, after the brand blamed “global tariff issues” for the product being “not currently economically viable” in the US, meaning that just 100 would be available to its American market.

Indianapolis-based Silca told customers that Donald Trump’s tariffs on imports had “a significant impact” on the sale of its new Elettrico Ultimate and Elettrico Micro electric inflators and that the brand’s largest historical market would only have “extremely limited” access to the pumps, in the form of a shipment of just 100 units.

Communicating the news on Instagram, Silca said it had “tried” to make the product in the US but it was “not exactly possible for less than $500”. A quick edit to the post added shortly after that confirmed the Elettrico Micro ($119/£119) and Ultimate ($159/£149) were now sold out in the US, Silca’s website also showing no availability to UK buyers too.

The brand claims the Elettrico Ultimate and Elettrico Micro are likely the most advanced electric inflators on the market, the packable rechargeable devices offering accurate and convenient inflation without the need for CO2 cartridges or a pump.

The Ultimate recharges via USB-C in an hour and offers users the equivalent of 10 CO2 cartridges per charge. At 222g, Silca says it has +1% accuracy when inflating your tyre to the right pressure using the hose and has a digital display to set your desired pressure. The smaller, cheaper Micro device recharges in 25 minutes and offers the equivalent of four CO2 cartridges per charge. It doesn’t have the display of the Ultimate but features a 72psi cut off. It is slightly bigger than an Airpods case and weighs 111g.

However, any US customers interested in buying one of the devices were told that stock was limited to just 100 units due to Trump’s controversial economic policy. Silca said:

Please note: Current United States tariff policies on imported goods have a significant impact, making the sale of these products within the US market not currently economically viable. Unfortunately, this means that Silca’s largest historical market will have EXTREMELY LIMITED access to these groundbreaking pumps. Only 100 units made it to the US on a shipment that couldn’t be stopped. The are releasing at the originally planned price point. Silca remains hopeful that these trade barriers will be resolved in the future, allowing US cyclists access to the Elettrico products.

Silca later reiterated the point that more units will not be offered in the US “until there is a change in tariffs”. Visiting the website as a UK customer also now shows the products are sold out here too.

It is the latest example of the bike industry trying to get to grips with the developing economic uncertainty caused by US president Trump’s tariffs on imports.

Earlier this week, Brompton CEO Will Butler-Adams called Trump’s economic policy “naive” and suggested his bike brand would likely be forced to raise US prices “between five and ten per cent”.

Trek, Giant and Specialized have all raised prices, or spoken about imminent increases, in the weeks since the tariff announcement, Taiwanese brand Giant saying the policy was “absolutely not positive” for the bike industry.
