The Assos RS Superleger Socks S11 might just be the closest thing to wearing air on your feet – if air was engineered in a Swiss lab. Designed for high-intensity training and competition, these promise breathability, comfort and a pro-peloton aesthetic. And they deliver.

Their Oxigen Tec material is impressively light, to the point where you almost forget you’re wearing socks. This is great when hammering up climbs in the Spanish sun or pushing on the turbo, where airflow and cooling are paramount. However, on a soggy February morning in Wiltshire, these won’t keep your toes toasty.

Their well-thought-out construction features a different bacteriostatic microfibre on the heel and toe for increased comfort, durability and odour control. While some race socks feature silicone grippers to prevent them from sliding, these rely on their InfaRed Yarns for high elasticity and slight compressive support. I didn’t experience any slippage, whether out on the road or suffering in my paincave. Sizing was good, with my 45.5 feet fitting perfectly in the size 43-46 socks.
The 20cm/8-in cuff length is a statement saying ‘I take my cycling seriously,’ without veering into extreme aero-sock territory. They stick to a classic woven fabric rather than a dimpled or ribbed aero design, making them a solid choice if you want race-inspired performance without looking like you’re about to break a UCI regulation.

Assos has ensured that these coordinate perfectly with its R and RS jerseys, making kit coordination effortless. My test pair came in black, which is universally acceptable, but perhaps lacks the full Assos-style flourish of some of the other choices.
Comfort-wise, they’re spot on. The fabric has just the right amount of stretch to hug your feet without annoying bunching or slipping, and they dry quickly. Durability remains a question mark, as with any ultralight sock, but after a number of washes, they still look and feel fresh. And they come with the assurance of a two-year warranty.

These are great socks, but they are expensive, with the similar Northwave Extreme Air Sock costing just £13.49.
Verdict
Comfortable, ultra-high-performance summer wear but the price tag is equally premium

Tell us what you particularly disliked about the product
Socks that say ‘Left’ and ‘Right’ on them annoy me when I inevitably put them on the wrong feet while getting ready.
How does the price compare to that of similar products in the market, including ones recently tested on road.cc?
Significantly more expensive than other lightweight summer socks, such as the £13.49 Northwave Extreme Air Sock or the similarly premium Pas Normal Studios Mechanism Socks that cost £18.

It’s a premium pair of socks with a premium price tag. While their lightweight feel and superb breathability are wonderful, I just think there’s a limited window of UK weather where such a sock is needed.
