Santini came to visit road.cc last week, showing us the 2016 clothing collection along with a revamped 365 range. The 365 clothing doesn’t change every season; it’s available for a few years at a time.
Here are the highlights.
Beta Jersey £109.99
Santini’s new Beta clothing is made for variable weather conditions when you need some protection from the wind and rain, along with breathability to stop you getting sweaty and uncomfortable when the sun comes out. The idea is that can get away without the hassle of putting on and taking off a spray jacket when the weather changes.
The fitted Beta Jersey is made from a lightweight Gore Windstopper laminate fabric (178g/m2) with extra-breathable panels underneath the arms, and Santini reckons it has an operating temperature from 10°C to 20°C – that covers a big chunk of the UK calendar.
The matching Beta armwarmers, part Windstopper fabric, are £39.99.
Beta Jacket £149.99
The Beta Jacket – you might call it a long sleeve jersey – follows a similar concept in that it’s also designed as a single layer that can handle wind and a bit or rain as well as dry conditions. It is again made from a Gore fabric but this time it’s Windstopper Xfree which is a thermo fleece designed to provide more warmth, so Santini says the Beta Jacket’s operating temperature is a little lower – 5°C to 18°C.
Like the jersey, it has drain holes in the rear pockets to allow rain to run out.
The cut is slim to avoid flapping, you get double thermal cuffs and the broad waist band looks pretty cool to us.
It’s available in both men’s and women’s versions.
Gara 2.0 3/4 Lycra Knickers £89.99
The new Garas are made from a thermofleece fabric with the wonderful name of Thunderbike Power. The seatpad is Santini’s GIT with a silicone gel core – the same one that we praised in our review of the brand’s Storm Bib tights.
Silicone grip dots are designed to hold the elastic leg grippers in place
Nova Multi Weather Jacket £89.99
The Nova Jacket, cut wider than the fitted items above, is available at a promotional price of £89.99 during September and October, rather than its usual £110. It’s designed to be windproof and water repellent, with a thermofleece insert down the centre of the back to add breathability.
The ZeroWind fabric that the Nova is made from has a water resistance of 10,000mm.
Vega Jersey £109.99
The Vega is made from a thermofleece fabric that has an Acquazero treatment that Santini has been using for several years to add some water resistance.
It’s cut quite long at the back so it’ll help keep off spray from your rear wheel if you ride without mudguards.
Vega Acquazero Bib Tights £129.99
The matching Vega Bib Tights have the Acquazero treatment too, along with a GIT chamois with a Twist gel core. We also like the look of the jacquard elastic braces which have a load of stretch that could be really useful for taller riders.
Fenix Jacket £149.99
The Fenix Jacket is made from a lightweight Gore Windstopper Sanremo fabric that’s resistant to wind and rain. It’s cut loose enough to allow you to wear a jersey underneath (whereas the Betas, above, are designed for use over just a base layer).
The back is long and you get a jacquard elastic waistband to prevent it riding up as you pedal. Santini gives the Fenix Jacket an operating range of 5°C to 15°C.
Meridian Winter Jacket £149.99
The Meridian has a typical Santini Euro look to it. It’s made from a two-layer Warmsant fabric – an outer that’s resistant to wind and rain and a thermofleece inner for warmth.
Santini reckon this Jacket is suitable for temperatures as low as -8°C. You’re probably not going to be cycling in temperatures lower than that.
Ice 2.0 Spray Jacket £79.99
This is a race-fit jacket made from windproof and water-resistant Windtex. It folds into its own zipped back pocket when not in use, and is easily small enough to sling in a jersey pocket.
The Ice 2.0 is also available as a gilet at £59.99.
Speedshell Road Speedsuit £149.99
The Speedshell is designed to offer an aero advantage by fitting as close as possible when you’re in a racing position, and it’s fitted with Santini’s high-end Nat seatpad that’s built with cooling in mind. We’re guessing that the super-wide silicone grippers should keep it in place well.
We reckon this looks really cool.
Dirtshell Cyclocross Suit £129.99
The Dirtshell skinsuit is very different in that it’s made from a thermofleece fabric for more warmth in typical cyclocross conditions. It has an Acquazero treatment to provide resistance to water and dirt, and it comes with Santini’s GIT chamois with a silicone gel core.
GR 44 Rain Jacket £79.99
The GR 44 is designed for commuting so, as you’d expect, it’s a much looser fit than any of the items above. The fabric has a 6,000mm waterproof rating which means it should handle light rain, and you also get a waterproof zip.
The jacket doesn’t look massively cycling-specific so you can wear it off the bike without looking out of place.

Well what is that way? Are you suggesting that every bend on every descent can be barriered over a 180km mountain stage?
Hopefully it'll still be allowed for recreational use.

Churnalism nowadays - mostly clickbait stuff and regurgitation in the local rags/comics and beyond.
I'm glad the barrier wasn't damaged. Whew, close one there! \s
