😂😂😂 That is pretty close to the truth!
What a crazy stage today.
What were Jumbo Visma trying to do?
Only one of my team made the break which was a disappointment. As usual when I don't pick Simon Yates he does well.
I was surprised not to see some of the lower GC riders not trying for the break.
Visma seemed to pick the wrong stage to send Laporte, WvA and Benoot up the road. Tomorrow's profile suits them way better. Kelderman and Jorgenson were the obvious ones to race for the win today. If the plan was to have helpers up the road for a Vingegaard attack then that went wrong apart from the fact that they helped limit his losses. Evenepoel was probably the happiest of the GC riders today.
The profile was similar to Stage 11 and it was a hot day, so maybe they thought Pogacar would have problems today too. If so they are clutching at straws.
If they hope to win, stage 19 is the best option with all the climbs at altitude where Pogacar can have problems, although Vingegaard himsef did struggle at altitude on Stage 4.
Or maybe Vingeggaard was feeling bad and wanted helpers up the road because of that.
They spent a lot of energy for no reward. Their plan seemed flawed from the start. You are right, the only chance of cracking Pogacar is on stages 19 & possibly 20 so save any master plan till then. Yesterday and today should be about getting the right rider up the road to contest the win.
My latest gamble didn't come off
I was hoping Gee and Butriago would get some freedom in Stage 17 & 18 but the safe bet of Vingeggaard + 3.0 rider proved the better option.
I had to decide between Cort & Matthews this morning. Naturally I got the wrong one! At least Matthews didn't win but those intermediate sprint points hurt you.
Have I counted wrongly, or are you guys down to 3 and 1 transfers respectively? That's a bit risky and doesn't allow much (any) flexibility.
I'm down to 3 which hopefully will see me through. Final TT looks to be one for the climbers so I'm not planning big changes. I've blown my chances in the TdF so I'll just soft pedal to the finish now! You know it's not your race when you take Turgis out & he picks up 14 in the intermediate! Shaping up to be a cracking stage though.
Yes down to one remaining transfer, I wasted some chasing the break the other day in an all or nothing attempt to try and make top 10.
Same as 11waterloo, the ITT looks made for GC climbers and a lottery to pick anyone else.
I'm now wishing I had an extra couple of transfers after getting it wrong yesterday!
You think Healy will lose his 5th place in young riders ?
I might use my last transfer to bring him back in for the ITT.
Not a bad call. I've got him in so easy decision for me. Top places seem locked in & it's hard to guess who will give it a nudge or who is burnt out. No big points to be had apart from the usual suspects so I don't think any number of transfers can alter things too much.
Outside the top 3, only Almeida looks a top 5 tomorrow and his price makes it very difficult to bring him in without a lot of transfers (which I don't have ).
Simon Yates is a good outsider but I mistakenly preferred Buitrago over Yates for the last stages. However Buitrago can make top 10 if he beats Ciccone by 23s, so he should have a lot of motivation tomorrow.
Healy took it easy today and lost his 5th place in young riders, so I hope this was to save something for tomorrow.
Healy in Johannessen out for my last transfer.
Shit !! I brought Quinn back in and cannot pick Healy.
I plucked up courage and did nothing yesterday. I got away with it as Simon Yates, who I would have brought in, did very little. I don't think the Quinn situation will do too much harm. It's an absolute lottery outside the top few riders.
Doing nothing can be difficult, in the past I have made some horribe changes when I planned to do nothing.
I eventually ended up bring in Lazkano for the ITT, he did well in the Dauphine ITT which had similar length but was less hilly than today.
I picked him ahead of Armiral who I unfortunately picked for the first ITT.
I ended up taking Lazcano out in order to get Gee in. I don't think we are talking big points though!
It looks like taking Lazkano out was the right move, he doesn't seem to be trying.
That's the issue with the last stage being a TT - Lots of riders just cruising round. The odd one looking to jump up on GC but they are generally the higher value riders so hard to squeeze into a team.
Hello - anyone know how the intermediate sprints will be scored in the Tour.
In the past they have been 15,14,13,12,.... I think - but there are no special notes for the tour listed in the stages scoring pages so am assuming they are 6,4,2 only?
The same with mountain points , these were usually scored differently for TdF too.
The intermediate sprints points can make a huge difference to rider selection.
Yes, it would be good to have clarity on this asap. I may need to think about 2 different teams in the meantime.
Extra scoring notes have been added.
Thanks Tony
