Good man. Next stage to be scored should include you in the league. In fact I can see you, adholman & Condor Andy lined up ready to go. (I manage the Aussies and Forum Scorum leagues).
OK will do Tony...
Did anybody go with Ewan or Sagan?....never even considered them after illness and poor form respectively. Went with Matthews, Mohoric and Laporte as my only transfers, just felt safer.
Ouch. Just seen my brother took out Stuyven....very ouch.
No, I actually contemplated making no changes as all my Strade team were riding, but brought in a couple of tough sprinters (Laporte & Garcia Cortina) who are riding next race and who predictably got me nothing! Fantastic race to watch though (excluding the first six hours)
Without a doubt the most perfectly balanced finish of the whole year.
same changes as you, seriously considered Ballerini but went for safer option with Matthews, worked out OK. Brilliant win by Stuyven but how awesome was Caleb on the Poggio, fantastic ride...
Got up early but still missed the transfer window. have the top three anyway.
doesnt help the enjoyment of the game now I'll probably just forget it.
Really hard to call. MVDP, WVA and Alaphilippe know exactly what they have to do to kill the sprinters off.....and theee of them are so good at it. The race is already on schedule to be the fastest ever...all driven by the Jumbo, Alpecin and QST...so no doubting the tactics....
Looks like Eschborn-Frankfurt has been moved to 19th September so maybe has to come out of Spring Classics? It must be a real pain administrating the game with calendar chopping and changing & fully understand if you decide to leave it in.
Paris-Roubaix looking less than certain now as France moves into tighter restrictions in that area. Fingers crossed.
If it's moved to the Autumn then we'll update to say it's cancelled and run the update with an empty start list. Removing it from the comp causes issues. Fingers crossed for Paris-Roubaix.
Cycling news has Ballerini, Rivi and Van Der Sande at 17,18 and 19th. The official site is ambiguous in that it has 2 riders in positions 17,18 & 19. PCS and the official UCI results show the above 3 riders DNF, and Venturini, Mollema, GVA and Bardet at positions 17,18,19, 20 respectively. So probably a change needed.
Yes, Rivi's team confirmed that his result was incorrect not long after the finish. https://twitter.com/eolokometateam/status/1368231204961533952?s=21
Minor stuff, but I think GVA and Mollema might be short of a few points.
That power bomb for MvtP on the final climb was something else. Alaphillipe getting the taste of his own medicine there.
Damn. Got a whiff of a crash for Pogacar yesterday so risked leaving him out. Crash confirmed but obviously nothing much.
The problem with races like this is that you really have to back the three favourites which you know everybody will have. so how to differenciate your team without taking huge risks?
There are no rewards for doing it, no prizes for stage wins and no goal. I'm fast coming to the conclusion that its all a bit pointless.
Is it me or is the game a bit stale? I enjoy the chess like strategy of a 3 week GT still but I am losing interest in the rest. The game is not adding to my interest in the sport anymore. How does everybody else feel?
I'd appreciate your comments.
Steve.
I hinted at this a few days ago replying to Dr Winston. You get very little feel for the one dayers - massive changes in starting lineup race to race, lots of transfers and sometimes weeks between races. There often doesn't seem as much skill as the stage races where the transfer budget is a lot tighter and strategy is key. I have spent way longer planning my Paris-Nice team than my Strade Bianchi one, mainly because four of my team will be pretty well the same for everyone (MvdP, WvA, JA & TP) and three other spots were filled by Kuurne riders (GvA, Wellens & Stybar) leaving only one place for a rider under £6 mill - throw a dart at the board time!
Having said all that, I do still enjoy playing them! I think part of the problem is the emergence of 'must have' riders like MvdP & WvA for the bigger races which limits selection options. Hopefully some of the races they are missing will allow more creative team selection. My only thought for a possible change would be to separate the one dayers from the stage races, to create a third season long competition (Standard, Purist & One Day). It would create more work though & I will still be happy to play in the current format!
I'm adding in riders down to do Strade Bianche, but haven't yet removed the riders from Kuurne. Don't want a panic if players get emails saying their riders are out only to replace them with someone not confirmed, or swap out someone not currently down who becomes available again. I'll remove riders when all rosters have been finalised.
So hard to predict theses one day races. I think if we can get pts for just four of our riders it's a good result.
I am absolutely useless at the one day races. Milan-San Remo is my worst, I always call it completely wrong!
I won the autum races last year, but I don't think I picked any better than anybody else. Each race has a big pool of talent...just pick and hope with many riders.
It is a totally different dynamic to the stage races where you can get a feel for the race and get into nice rhythm. The one dayers just don't have that, especially when the next race can have a totally different field. The plus side is that if you have a disaster (Omloop in my case!)you have enough transfers to transform your team overnight!
Hi guys, any chance to reopen the transfer window for oomloop as it doesn't start for another hour?
Let me know,
AdrienT
Thanks Andy. Best races of the year. How do you think young Tom will do?
Don't think people are expecting huge results from him yet and it depends what kind of strategy Ineos go with. They do have a more exciting classics squad this year though, and hopefully he'll get some chances.
Yeah..my thoughts as well.
