Car crashes into building - please post your Local news stories

Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes...

I just don't remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it's irresponsible.

'A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment." '

BMW carrying Gills’ players crashes in Woodlands Road, Gillingham

“It looks like it’s caused a lot of damage. The neighbours are shocked. The guy who lived there was opening his curtains as it happened so he saw it.

“This road has a school on it. It’s lucky it’s school holiday time or people could have been hurt.”

The owner of the house where the wall was destroyed did not wish to speak at length, only saying the driver “is a nice bloke, it was an accident”.

Car crashes into bridge on Sugarbrook Lane in Stoke Pound

"car might have crashed into garage"  We're just a few 'back to school' stories away from the end of Silly Season 2023:

Police appealing for damaged garage information on Knapp Way

A GARAGE on a residential road may have been damaged by an attempted break-in or a car hitting it.

West Mercia Police have said that sometime between Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19, damage was sustained to a garage on Knapp Way, Malvern.

PCSO Collette Carpenter, of the Link and Dyson safer neighbourhood policing team, said: "It's unclear if the damage has been caused due to an attempted break [in] or if someone has tried to turn around, hitting the garage in the process.

Took me a little while to realise they have had to weatherproof the house with the car in situ.

From the BBC article "The pictures speak for themselves" - no they don't!

How? Why?

Also, the obligatory "you can't park that there, mate"

(...and why does the U.S. call the ground floor the 1st floor?)

An absolute classic from the USA, pic from Lakewood Police Department, via Boingboing.net and USA Today:

How is that just a traffic violation? Is the building part of the road system now and if so, they should have fined the people inside for jaywalking.

Looks like a fire risk blocking that exit - should be removed before the building is used.

Shocked Exeter locals reveal horror of police chase in cul-de-sac

"It all happened within a couple of minutes. I don't think the car knew it was a dead end. You could see the desperation to get away"

"It was shocking as you didn't know what they would hit next. If there had been any children out there they would have been killed."

Witnesses say the car in pursuit ended up speeding down Wilton Way towards a dead end and collided with parked cars before it reversed into a house and damaged more cars, including police vehicles, before coming to a stop on the pavement wedged between a car and a wall.

One resident had three cars damaged during the incident. The damage to the house was minimal.

It's the general police/prosecution principle of 'charge idiot drivers with the minimum possible offence'.
