I bought a rear mech online from Raceview over Christmas, mainly due to the very competitive price. Took a little while to get to me which did prompt me to call them to enquire. The service I received when I called was first rate though with the promised call back once further details regarding the order were known coming within half an hour of my initial call.
I do think folks at Raceview that it might be worth taking a few tips from Nick at Vulpine on good responses on the comments pages, would probably spare you from similar grief in the future.
Ohh boy, this discussion has really blown up. I'm going to pass along my own experiences here as the original poster.
So I had actually placed an order with Raceviewcycles just before posting. That order has now arrived and everything is great. The goods were well packed and arrived in excellent condition. The original price on their website was competitive which was the main reason for making the order. I had spoken with John about some details and got a good response. Honestly, I've had worse service from one of the big online suppliers in the past. The package arrived, partially opened and one if the items was missing. It was only a small Birzman multitool. But despite informing them (E***S) I never heard back from them. I've had other instances of goods arriving in flimsy bubble wrapping bags from another of the big online operators.
So my experiences with Raceviewcycles for this order have been very acceptable.
Bill
Thanks for letting us know, Bill. Good to know you got a good service.
Think it's fair to say that it's usually a safer bet to stick with the big retailers.
You have a very similar style of writing to RaceviewEquestrian by the way.
If the quotes are all correct it looks like they've changed the statement too!
Yup - they've removed the hissyfit as quoted by "harragan"
As equestrian people they should understand about stable doors and bolting horses....
PMSL that brightened up my flu ridden Sunday night
A family run equestrian business, with a chartered accountancy background, and 25 years road cycling sales experience since the Giro passed by 2 years ago?
(And a marketing manager acting as if they're still in primary school, or maybe a marketing manager looking at whoever wrote the above post in horror.)
Prices arn't even that good.
And a lack of reviews online for either company would have me staying away.
How do you explain that, if you Google "site:raceviewcycles.com shiny", the search results for the Vittoria inner tubes has a description that reads "Shiny Bikes special saver pack of 20 Vittoria boxed inner tubes 700c 1923mm."
Of course, when you click through, that particular page of the site has since been updated to remove the reference to Shiny Bikes.
I've taken a screenshot and I'm sure those of us who are about to receive a solicitor's letter greatly look forward to throwing it straight in the bin.

.
I took a look at Raceview's website and strayed to the terms and conditions section. Before leaving any review on their website I suggest you take a look at the section titled "Reviews..." Some of the terms here alarmed me - especially the modify content and indemnity terms imposed on you, the reviewer. I checked out a number of popular websites and saw nothing similar
Wow.
What a spectacular own goal.
I would offer some marketing advice, but I'd be concerned that it might be seen as libellous.
^ How to lose custom and alienate people.
"Can we just clear up a few issues and assumptions here"
Course you can, but not via the sort of bollocks that followed that 'question'.
. . . now trading as DisgRACEVIEW cycles.
'I suggest some members should base their written communications on fact and not assumptions. '
That new-fangled thinking is never going to catch on. This here's the internet, boy.
I'd be wary. too many coincidences.
Whoever they are I would hesitate to shop with them. The spelling, the strangulated English and the poor punctuation don't inspire confidence.
Gosh, heavy-handed threats of involving our learned friends and a promise of 'a more effluent service'.
I'm sure forum members are capable of drawing their own conclusions.
Can we just clear up a few issues and assumptions here.
Race View Equestrian is the parent company for Race View Cycles.
The rest of the statements and correlations linking us with any other company or companies such as Shiny Bikes is incorrect.
We are an independent company, you cannot assume that just because Race View Equestrian operates out of a shop premises nearby to where they used to have premises is the same company. Race View Cycles office is based near Ballymena but the stock and orders are processed from our warehouse in the UK. This logistically makes common sense because 95% of our customer base online is the mainland UK, and overseas so logistically it makes sense to ship all orders from the mainland. This makes for a more efficient service to our online customers.! Shortly our Equestrian stock and warehousing will also move to the mainland as logistically we are processing more orders now to the mainland, so both companies will merge warehousing together.
We are a growing company and we are working towards our business strategy of retailing products to most outdoor pursuits, this is our long term vision. We have analysed the gap in the market locally for cycling products since the success of the Giro d'italia and simply plugged it nothing more (this is one of our key aims) It is the same as what we have done with the equestrian market place very successfully, same business model.
The comments above suggest we are the same company are inaccurate, untrue and libellous. I suggest some members should base their written communications on fact and not assumptions.
We at Race View Group strive to provide an exceptional service to all our customers in both sectors Equestrian and Cycling. We work hard to achieve this and ultimately want our customers to get the best experience. We have had nothing but praise for the service we provide our customers and we will work tirelessly to continue this to ensure our customers get the best service possible in our business transactions. We come from a chartered accountancy background and this is very evident in how professional we run the business operations, no stone is left unturned to satisfy the needs of our customers.
Regards
Race View Equestrian.
Why such a threatening tone? You could have come on here and simply put people straight. You might have had a better response and even picked up a few customers. As it is, I have a suspicion you've just alienated quite a few people on here. Clumsy, to say the least.
Ooh!
Temper, temper...
I am quoting RaceviewEquestrian first.
If Shiny Bikes ceased trading then it is completely reasonable that a new entity is legally separate and independent. Some forum members have identified that these independent entities share some things in common.
I have noted that Shiny Bikes stocked the following bike brands:
Pinarello, Colnago, Enigma, Kinesis, Cinelli and Ritchey.
And that Race View Cycles stock:
Pinarello, Colnago, Enigma and Kinesis.
I have also noted that the Terms and Conditions used in the current Race View Cycles website is identical, in many sections, to the Terms and Conditions used for Shinybikes.
Without suggesting that there is any connection, the coincidence is remarkable.
There have been retailers in the bike world who have had various issues or even a change in ownership and have made a fresh start which means that there are familiar staff and a new opportunity for those businesses to make changes.
Customers are keen on trustworthy and reliable retailers. In online communities, individuals tend to have a sense of looking out for one another and expecting nothing in return. Individuals may not always get it right, though typically they are acting selflessly which is why people have so much faith in the information shared in communities. This is compounded by the trend of big business who work unfairly and against the interests of consumers and society.
Brands / retailers / companies can help the community by being forthcoming. For example when SRAM had the hydraulic disc brake recall, they went to the public quickly and though they took hit in publicising and resolving this, they retain customer faith by being open.
Why not relocate to North America? Most of your recent road.cc reviews all seem to come from that side of the pond.
my tracking info said my itemwas shipped from Belfast, not UK mainland.
As has been said, if they're the same crew as shiny bikes leave them well alone..
'Bought' a pair of wheels from them a while back, they were advertised as being instock, money leaves my account, no wheels in stock, they then instigated the weirdest refund system going that would of took ages had my bank not gotten involved. Guy was extremely unhelpful, lazy and rude. Even my bank said it seemed a dodgy set up..
I wouldn't. Race View Cycles is the new name for Shiny Bikes. Both I and a friend have had bad experiences after buying gear from them - in my case nearly a grands worth of groupset, in my friend's case a rather expensive frame. In both cases there were faults present straight out of the box. The guy who runs the place, Fraser, was so unhelpful and lazy that we ended up dealing with our own warranty claims through the distributors, then waiting several weeks for Fraser to get round to forwarding the repaired items to us.
They're not cheap enough for the hassle to be worth it.
It looks like RaceView Cycles has risen from the ashes of Shiny Bikes:
RaceView Cycles is a trading name for RaceView Equestrian (as stated at the bottom of the website). RaceView Equestrian is owned by Dawn Wilson. More business info on them here: https://check-business.co.uk/business/NI631676/raceview-equestrian-limited/
Shiny Bikes were owned by Fraser Wilson. Business info here: https://check-business.co.uk/business/05833543/shiny-bikes-ltd/
Both have trading addresses at Raceview Mill, Broughshane, BT42 4JJ.
Shiny Bikes went through through Voluntary Winding Up/Liquidation in Nov 2015: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/2427463.
There are reviews online for Shiny Bikes with lots of poor ratings, many of those are in the last months of trading: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.shinybikes.com.
AFAIK they're quite new, though done equestrian stuff for a while, but only around the corner from my mums so I can call around if needed.
Ballymena Road Club are based fairly close so maybe worth asking on their Facebook page.
Cheap prices, very slow to deliver, dreadful customer service. Only order if you enjoy the wait and be prepared to call them repeatedly.
