The great and good are honoured in Celebration of Peterborough Cycling

Peterborough shows healthy cycling scene as John Herety guests at event

The local branch of the Rapha/Condor cycling club hosted the inagural "Celebration of Peterborough Cycling" last night.

John Herety, team Manager of the pro element to that squad was the guest speaker and told the assembled audience that engaging youth riders and then retaining them was the key to continued progress in the sport.

Each of the local clubs had representation with short presentations delivered by all (yes even my speech on behalf of Fenland Clarion was concise!). We all talked about our 2012 highlights and our plans to continue progress and co-existence in 2013.

There were a number of awards given out, both serious and some light hearted. But the real winner on the evening was the sport as a number of clubs came together to share their aims and challenges. We now have to continue working together rather than adopting a sheepish approach to 'rivals'.

Its a new way of thinking and its novel. I had a great time.
