This is a tool that can do most things. It has all of the features you require for trail, road, commute, sportive or racing. It is compact and relatively light, weighing in at 160g. Pop it in your pocket or bag and forget about it! It’s not the first one I’ve tested – I’ve been using versions of this tool since it was called the Hummer – and it’s always been a reliable performer. Nothing much has changed this year, but if it ain’t broke…
Once the initial newness / stiffness has worn off the Hexus has excellent functionality. The only criticism I have is after 2 weeks thrown in and out of my panniers is that the coating is wearing off the outer casing. Not really a problem, it is a tool after all! Most importantly the keys, flat head, Phillips, chain splitter and levers all look as new. They appear to be very durable and are easily cleaned. All of the expected features are present including a very neat and tidy chain hook to keep you clean when splitting!
Tools: Allen keys 2/2.5/3/4-2/5/6/8mm, Torx Bit T25, Phillips & Flat Head Screwdrivers, Spoke keys 15g/14g, Chain Tool, Chain Hook, Tyre Levers
Verdict
I have confidently put the Hexus, a tube and pump in my pocket and disappeared for the day knowing it’ll get me out of jail if push comes to shove. A great tool with everything you need.

These are great multi-tools –
These are great multi-tools – I’ve had mine for ages, and it’s yet to let me down. That said, I don’t really trust the tyre levers (they’re the side panels of the tool, which you unclip to use) but then it’s no great hardship to carry a set of tyre levers (and I could be being irrational).
+1 for the Hexus, it’s a
+1 for the Hexus, it’s a cracking tool. Mine’s a bit rusty now after being left in a damp hydrapak too often, but it’s been going for 3 years and never let me down. ditto on the tyre levers though, i carry a ‘proper’ set too
This has served me well, but
This has served me well, but I wouldn’t trust the tyre levers unless you know your tyre comes off fairly easily. Used one on a Schwalbe Marathon Plus and it broke, but then Marathon Plus’s are pretty hard to get off the rim.

I’m on my 3rd. The first one, my mistake flew out of my saddle bag, recovered it but on the bounce one of the tyre levers flew off and into the estuary 50m below the Forth Road Bridge. I think I broke the hex for the chain tool. Ive never had a problem with the tyre levers and used them to get off my mates tyres (IIRC they were Gators) when his snapped. I would certainly buy one again.
