OneUp Components’ top-quality CNC machining has been extended to a stem, resulting in a functional and well-priced product. The no-gap face plate tightening procedure makes installation a breeze, and the angular aesthetics help it stand out from the crowd. Although the steerer clamp area may not be the friendliest in a crash, it’s still an excellent offering to keep your handlebars secure.
OneUp Components Stem – Technical details
OneUp Components is well-renowned for its high-quality and well-considered CNC-machined parts, so it’s natural to offer a stem in its product lineup. Most importantly, the stem is available in three mountain bike-friendly lengths: 35mm, 42mm and 50mm and is only suitable for 35mm clamp diameter bars.

Other details include 0mm rise, a stack height of 39mm and a bar clamp width of 55mm, which is narrow enough to fit most bars on the market.
Made from 6061-T6 aluminium, the stem is designed to be strong, light and durable. Claimed weights range from 155g to 173g, depending on the stem length. This has been achieved with some fancy machining, which aims to be efficient in its use of material, generating the functional yet aesthetic lines.
The stem is only available in black with no customisation options.
OneUp Components Stem – Performance
To help with fitting, the stem has a small line to help centralise the bar, which is helpful if the bar you’re using has a central marker as well. Of course, the OneUp bar has this, but other brands employ similar handy markings on their bars, too.

When it comes to tightening the faceplate bolts, the usual cross-diagonal tightening pattern doesn’t apply. OneUp has designed the stem to tighten the top bolts first (6Nm), leaving no gap between the faceplate and stem body, then tighten the bottom bolts (6Nm) to clamp the bar. This design and tightening process is said to create a more consistent clamping force on the handlebars.

Installation was a breeze, as expected, with nothing out of the ordinary, and the no-gap tightening sequence actually made the process a little easier.
Stems have a fairly basic job to carry out, and whilst most stems manage to hold your bar to your fork steerer with no issues, there are still ways to stand out from the crowd. The installation process is straightforward, which is always a bonus, with the no-gap tightening procedure makes life a little simpler. There is no noticeable flex in the stem, which gives a direct feel to the steering and maintains a firm grip on the bar, whether it’s carbon or aluminium.
Although this stem isn’t the lightest, it’s by no means heavy either. As a guide, the Renthal Apex35 stem comes in approx. 20g lighter whilst the Title ST1 stem comes in approx. 25g heavier.

Aesthetically, the OneUp stem is a little more angular than many options, but I personally like the change. The clamp around the steerer does have some sharper edges, which could cause some bruises in the event of a crash. I would prefer to see more friendly and rounder edges on this surface.
OneUp Components Stem – Verdict
Retailing at £89, the OneUp Stem is reasonably priced considering the classic OneUp quality. There are, of course, many stem options on the market, such as the Gusset S2, which is good value priced at £70. It’s nice and stiff, but maybe not the lightest.
A personal favourite of mine is the Hope Gravity Stem, another one if you’re really into CNC-machined goodness. It comes in a range of colours, sizes and looks pretty great, but at £110 it sure isn’t cheap.
The OneUp Components stem is a functional and well-priced stem which stands out a little from the crowd with its angular aesthetics. The angular stem clamp may not be the most friendly in a crash, but the high-quality finish and reasonable weight make this a great stem option.
