Cane Creek, a brand known for its suspension components and titanium cranks, has revealed its new DB Twin Tube shock tech. The all-new Tigon shock is neither a coil shock nor an air unit, but rather a combination of the two concepts. It promises the unlimited adjustability of the air shock and the supple small-bump sensitivity of the fabled coil. Read on for all the details.

The new Tigon gets what Cane Creek has dubbed RAMP Tube Technology. This means a completely new layout, using a much fatter shaft (12.7mm in diameter) that looks more like an air shock. Due to this, the shock should be able to withstand the side load and twisting forces of a mountain bike frame.

With that new body, RAMP Tech uses a secondary air spring as well as a coil spring which controls shock progression. A proper spring for rider weight is still required but this air spring can add up to 35% progression compared to a traditional shock. Whereas the inclusion of a coil offers increased grip and better ground tracking.

Elsewhere, Cane Creek’s new rear damper gets many of the features we’ve seen before, including high- and low-speed compression adjustment, the aforementioned RAMP tube, low-speed rebound adjustment and a two-position climb switch.

As with all Cane Creek items, the Tigon is built by hand in Western North Carolina and is available in standard and trunnion-mount options with plenty of eye-to-eye sizes. This new shock will set you back £800.
