It’s the bag issue, we’ve got a number of new hydration packs in at HQ and ready for testing. With day packs from Osprey, EVOC and Camelbak in the mix, there are good additions to the ranges of bags we’ve already tested.

Osprey Escapist 18 hydration pack

The Escapist 18 is a relatively large pack made with big adventures or even commuting in mind. It gets Osprey’s AirScape™ back panel which we are already fans of here at off-road.cc, plus their Biostretch hip belt to keep the pack secure when the going gets steeper and rougher. There are two larger sizes available too, the Escapist 25 and the massive Escapist 32 but we thought 18L should more than manage our adventures.

Osprey Siskin 12 hydration pack

The Osprey Siskin is a 12L hydration trail pack for day long rides. It’s slightly larger than the Raptor and the Raven 10L packs which we have raved about in the past and we are looking forward to seeing if this one fares as well as the others. The Siskin hold a 2.5L bladder, gets the breathable Airscape back panel and plenty of tool storage inside the main compartment. There is also the Salida women’s specific version which cites a better fit for women through a specially tailored hip belt, yoke, harness and back panel.

Opsrey Savu 4 bumbag

The Savu bum bag is one of those waist belts that comes without a bladder but with space for two regular water bottles. It gets stiffened compartments on either side of the main storage for said bottles and 4L of storage throughout. Weighing 370g it’s light too, we’ll be taking this one on short laps and see how we get on with the bottle arrangement.

EVOC FR Trail 20L

With its classic EVOC style, the FR Trail is EVOC’s day pack with added back protection. It can carry 20 litres of gear, there are lots of separate pockets to keep everything well organised and, of course, there’s that large, stretchy waist belt to support the lot. Available in two sized Small and Medium/Large (both 20L packs), its the latter we have here for a male tester of a regular height!

Camelbak H.A.W.G LR 20

Following on from our latest M.U.L.E. review we are now going to test the brand new 20 litre H.A.W.G. It’s a low rider (LR) pack that positions the 3 litre bladder low in the pack. It also gets the new ‘dual wing system’ which both supports and winches in content at the bottom of the pack, integrating with the waist belt as we have seen on the new Skyline and Solstices packs.
