Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, due to take place today, has been cancelled as a result of heavy snowfalls overnight in Belgium, as well as forecasts of further snow and rain potentially resulting in icy roads and making conditions dangerous for riders.
The GP Lugano in Switzerland is another race to have fallen victim to the weather, with the safety of participants a priority.

Yeah, I mean who would have thought that riding at pro race speed over snow-covered cobbles and up snow-covered hellingen would be dangerous 😕
Sensible decision. Looking at
Sensible decision. Looking at the pictures it would have been asking for a serious incident. Riders should not be asked to take this sort of risk. The costs to the organisers must have been high, so clearly the decision would not be taken lightly. The race was cancelled once in the 80s and once in the 90s, it’s a chance you take with very early season races. Just look at Perfs RR here in south England, that’s even earlier and has not been too bad for cancellations but usually has cold poor conditions. This year’s was even reduced in distance because of the freezing rain and floods starting on the circuit.
