Liam Mercer
off.road.cc’s Managing Editor, Liam, is all about everything off-road cycling. Whether it’s riding enduro e-mountain bikes as quickly as his skills would allow, or more chilled gravel expeditions, if it’s on two wheels and on dirt, he’s happy. While he loves an aggressive trail mountain bike, he has a penchant for anything steel or with exotic frame materials. When not riding bikes, he’s tinkering with them to learn the ins and outs of what makes everything tick. He’s been contributing to the site for over six years now, and has worked his way up from freelancer to Staff Writer and Tech Editor to where he finds himself today, with hundreds of reviews of mountain and gravel bikes, and all kinds of parts and accessories under his belt.

Discovered Wiggle even before I returned to cycling, bought a lot of my running gear from there and they had good prices on Under Armour and Ronhill kit. The dhb stuff I've bought is great value, and got a few Lifeline tools in the closing down sale as well. No idea if dhb is still as good as it was, since Wiggle went under though and also since they bought the pro team, Decathlon's Van Rysel brand has really stepped it up in terms of quality and value.

@60somethingcyclist Let’s hope the Straits of Hormuz closure and the one that seems to be developing in the Red Sea lasts long enough to make them get out of their cars I'm encouraged to be able to partially agree with a youngster, but there's no sign up here in North Lancashire that the increase in fuel prices has had any effect on the willingness to drive everywhere no matter how short the journey, the tendency to leave the engine running while clogging up the roads outside the school or the fuel-wasting driving practices which are routine for panzer drivers. This is the time to re-introduce the fuel price escalator- they'll hardly notice it in comparison to the increases to come.

Worth remembering that the intent of the legislation was to secure a minimum right of access over the years this has become a de facto maximum right of access. Landowners can allow access to cyclists on footpaths if they choose to. Not pointing a finger at the hard done to farmer but large landowners like NT and Water Companies they can permit more access than the legal minimum

Over half of all UK car journeys are under 5 miles That's what "those who must rely on cars" actually means. Lazy entitled people who can't be bothered to walk or cycle short distances. No wonder we've got such an obesity problem in Britain. Let's hope the Straits of Hormuz closure and the oner that seems to be developing in the Red Sea lasts long enough to make them get out of their cars.

@SecretSam A 10 minute walk to the pub or takeaway in their case.

What a load of drivel, I've seen some of these guys out and about and have never witnessed them be anything other than polite and courteous to others. I can only assume you're one of those annoying cyclists who wobble all over the middle of the road, possibly engaged in conversation with someone equally as slow as you, blissfully unaware that you're acting as a mobile roadblock. Hint: if you hear a gigantic freehub sound behind you, it's time to move aside for the big boys!

@perce I believe "the schooldays of Nigel Grabbage" are a topic it's considered by right-thinking people * to be impolite, nay declassé to mention. Along with "I wonder why rich types with criminal records and/or dodgy business interests ** keep giving you massive "gifts with no strings attached", while by coincidence you speak in favour of said dodgy business types getting less regulation?" * Apparently anyone who'll lend him a vote. Or a few thousand/million. ** Or their relatives, who've somehow found the money down the back of their more spartan sofas.

@Pub bike Same here, since the excellent restrictions have been in place the thought of a group of macho pillocks from Dynamo coming huffing, spitting and snot rocketing past in a chain gang six inches off my right shoulder, shouting "coming through" and "on your right" - even when the whole carriageway is completely empty and they could leave three metres if they wanted - is definitely the most offputting thing about using the glorious park.
