At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Following on from their Belgian-style wooly winter hat, Dorset-based clothing company Prendas have released the Sublimated Pro Winter Hat. It's much the same as the original, but a new fabric allows a range of snazzy colours so you can match it to the rest of your kit.

It does a brilliant job of keeping your head and ears warm. The fabric is thin enough that it'll fit comfortably under a helmet, yet provides adequate insulation for temperatures well below freezing. I've been wearing this hat almost exclusively this winter and for temperatures ranging from sub-zero to about 10 degrees, it's perfect.

The polyester fabric is soft and breathable enough to avoid clinging on to much moisture when you're working hard. It's quick drying and always ready the next day for another ride. The sides easily cover the ears, and can be folded up when it's warm. The peak does a good job of keeping the sun out of your eyes when it's sitting low in the sky, and is handy in the rain too.

It's an Italian-made hat and is very durable, I've been wearing it daily and it's been through a few washes, and it's holding up just fine. It would be nice to see Prendas offer a few more colours other than red or yellow, but that's just nitpicking really.

It really is all you need from a winter hat. All that, and it only costs £20. Bargain!

Verdict

Warm and stylish winter hat at a brilliant price

Tell us what the product is for, and who it's aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings about it?

After the success of our Prendas Belgian-Style Winter Hat, we are delighted to offer a colour-coded new addition to our Winter hat range!

We've taken the design of our popular GORE Windstopper Jacket, and applied this to fabric that can be sublimated (unlike the original Winter hat) to create a more colourful affair.

As both colours of the Winter Jacket have proved popular, we've decided to go ahead and offer both colours in this garment too. The overall shape of the hat is identical to the original with the same peak, soft lining, ribbed knitted rear flap and a multiple panel design that makes it comfortable to wear.

I ordered mine on Friday morning and it arrived Saturday morning, great service.
I was going to buy the dhb version, but after reading reviews where people had stated the holes around the ears magnify the noise I was put off. I read this review and it ticked all the boxes. I wore it for the first time on our Sunday club run, 72miles and I have to say I am impressed with it. The fit is excellent, I'm a 54cm head and it fits great. It was 1deg this morning when I left with frost in places. My head stayed warm, but crucially as the morning warmed up during the ride, my head stayed warm and didn't get too hot. It was nice to ride with a peaked hat to obscure the low morning sun. At times I did feel that the peak was a little low as I felt like I had my head tilted back, although after I stopped I adjusted it and all was good again! 1

Well recommended hat.

Any info on sizing - is it typically Italian? Nothing on the website that I can see.

I've a large-ish head (60cm circ) and it fits me fine.
