Rose Bikes has launched a new aero bike platform, designed to combine “aerodynamics, lightweight design, and agility”. The range includes the Shave, Shave FF, and flagship FFX, raced by the Unibet Rose Rockets. The top-tier FFX has a claimed frame weight of just 740 g (size ML). Prices start at €3,600 (~£3,100) for the Shave and top out at €8,500 (~£7,400) for the FFX.

The German brand has released two new design concepts, spanning three bikes, which it says are “developed to set entirely new standards in bicycle technology,” with geometry tailored to different rider types and performance levels.

The Shave

Designed for riders who want aerodynamic gains without an aggressive riding position, the Shave is aimed at maintaining efficiency over longer distances. It features a fully integrated carbon cockpit with tyre clearance for up to 36mm.

Other brands have also leaned into the aero/endurance space, such as Canyon with the Endurace CF SLX 8 Di2, which features Canyon’s Aerocockpit and internal frame storage, along with clearance for tyres up to 35 mm.

The Shave FF and FFX

The Shave FF and FFX are the race-focused models built around Rose’s “Aerodynamics First” concept. According to Rose, the flagship FFX is 4.7% faster than its predecessor, the Xlite 06, delivering claimed aerodynamic savings of 10 W, while also being 12.5% lighter, with more than 450g saved across the frameset, wheels, cockpit, and small attachements.

Despite its aero focus, the Shave FF features a claimed 850g frame, while the flagship FFX uses aerospace-grade carbon to reduce frame weight to 740g (size ML), sharing the same race geometry.

Rose has managed to bring the complete Shave FFX bike down to a claimed 6.7 kg (size M/L), 100 g above the UCI’s minimum weight limit.

Tyre clearance is similar to the endurance-focused Slave, with space for up to 35mm of rubber.

The Shave FFX is the model raced by the Unibet Rose Rockets, and sprinter Dylan Groenewegen says: “I am extremely pleased with the ‘Rocket Speed’ this bike already delivers. It’s a great signal that our race winning bike is now becoming accessible to all our fans and amateur riders as well.”

New wheelset

Rose has also launched a new wheelset, designed to combine “high riding stability with minimal drag and weight.” The RC55 wheelset was part of the Shave road bike’s development from the start, as Rose notes that, from an aerodynamic perspective, wheels are the most complex component of the entire system.

The 55m deep rim, has an inner width of 23mm and the complete wheelset is claimed to weigh 1,360g. This is competitive for a wheelset of this depth with the Fulcrum Speed 55T DB wheels weighing a claimed 1,580g and the Enve SES 4.5 wheels said to be 1,452g.

Geometry

The Shave is designed as an endurance-aero bike combining “ergonomics with aerodynamics [that] pushes you to ride faster for longer”, while the Shave FF and FFX share a more aero-focused geometry.

Let’s take the medium-sized Shave. It has a 545mm top tube, 492mm seat tube, and 157mm head tube. The stack is 584mm and the reach is 378mm, giving a stack/reach ratio of 1.54.
In comparison, the Shave FF and FFX have a 544mm top tube, 492mm seat tube, and a shorter 135mm head tube. The stack is 547mm and the reach is 392mm, giving a stack/reach ratio of 1.40 – so, as you’d expect, the FF and FFX’s ride position is more aggressive.

Pricing and availability

We expected more models to follow after the German brand returned to the UK market at the start of this year with the Backroad FF Rival XPLR AXS gravel race bike. Rose says that they are currently working on making the Shave, Shave FF and FFX available in the UK, though no specific release date has been confirmed.
The following builds and specifications are available: the all-round aero Shave, the race-focused Shave FF, and the flagship FFX, which is competitively priced by today’s pro-peloton standards. All models in the Shave range come exclusively with electronic groupsets.
