The Muc-Off Collapsible Silicone Funnel does what it says on the tin. It works well, and it takes up less space than a non-collapsible funnel. It’s not expensive, though cheaper alternatives are available online.
A funnel?
“Why are you publishing a funnel review?” you might ask, which is closely related to, “Why is Muc-Off selling a funnel?” It’s all to do with Project Green, Muc-Off’s initiative to make its products and packaging as environmentally friendly as possible.
Muc-Off has form. It invented its eco-friendly pink bike cleaner in 1994. At the time, most riders were cleaning their bikes with washing up liquid. Washing up liquid contains a lot of salt – not a great idea to use a corrosive substance on a bicycle. It has since branched out into biodegradable bike lubes and other stuff.
Selling eco-friendly liquids involves refills. For its pink bike cleaner, for example, you can buy liquid concentrate, reducing the amount of water that is shipped all over the place, or you can buy a powder refill, which weighs even less and comes in plastic-free, compostable packaging.
I’m still using the first Nano-Tech Bike Cleaner spray bottle I bought years ago, and I think I’m on my third or fourth 5L concentrate refill bottle. (The powder wasn’t available when I last bought one.)
I’m guessing the need for a funnel in this scenario is reasonably obvious and therefore why Muc-Off might want to offer an eco-friendly one as part of its range.
Eco-friendly
What’s so eco about this funnel? Well, it’s made from silicone, which is more durable and more ocean-friendly than plastic, according to Muc-Off. The collapsible design is not only handy for storage at home, it also means a smaller CO2 footprint when shipping.
Size
Muc-Off sells two sizes of collapsible funnel: this one designed for its drivetrain and bike cleaner bottles, and a smaller one for refilling its lube bottles.
I haven’t tried the smaller one, but this one works well and is sized just right to take up not much space and still be big enough to prevent non-eco-friendly spillages.
Value
At £7.50, this funnel is not going to break the bank. You can however find cheaper collapsible silicone funnels online. I found a similarly sized one on eBay for £3.49 to give just one example.
Conclusion
This is a great funnel. If you already have a funnel that fits bike cleaner bottles, I think Muc-Off would agree that you don’t need another, as that wouldn’t be very eco-friendly. But if you’re buying into the refill idea and you don’t already have a funnel, this one works well.
As I mentioned in the review, you can find cheaper alternatives, but unlike this Muc-Off one, I can’t vouch for their durability, or the broader eco-credentials of the company you’re buying from.

This funnel works well and is sized just right for Muc-Off drivetrain and bike cleaner bottles. There are cheaper alternatives. You are spending a bit extra here for the Muc-Off brand, the fact that this funnel is (probably) stocked in your decent local bike shop and the hot pink colourway.
