The Altura Trail is built for experienced riders, with it’s rocky, red grade features, and longer descents and climbs. It packs in plenty of fast trails – some outright speed, others more technical. There is an updated section completed late 2021 which has improved and repaired several parts.
It offers amazing views of Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite, Helvellyn and Skiddaw as the trail climbs to 500m (1600ft) above Keswick. With that in mind, on wet and or windier days, remember to take a decent jacket and spare kit, if you get caught with a mechanical you’ll be glad of it – there is a little shelter in the trees but some parts are exposed.
The trail is divided into the north and south loops. The 10km North loop starts from the car park and across the road from the main visitor entrance for the South loop.
