What makes the new Terreno Pro T60 stand out isn’t just how it rides, but how it looks. Vittoria has removed carbon black from the manufacturing process, and the tyres are made from 92% renewable and recycled materials. The result? They’re not black, but the lack of black does incredibly little to harm grip and performance.
Vittoria Terreno Pro T60 Mixed Gravel Race – Technical Details
Several aspects of the tyre are new and distinct compared to Vittoria’s long-standing Endurance range. The casing is constructed from multiple layers of organic cotton that’s bolstered with natural latex. It also includes an anti-puncture belt which is made of Seawastex recycled nylon, so that’s old fishing nets to you and me. That Nylon protection then spreads to the sidewalls.
All of that protection is then boosted further with a Bead Shield, which is an extra layer in the casing that sits around the bead, if you’ve not already guessed.
In the race-specific compound, no carbon black is used, giving the tyre its distinctive dark brown hue. Rather, the Eco Race compound uses natural rubber, soybean oil, rice husk ash silica.
Coming as part of Vittoria’s revised naming convention, the T60 model is the most aggressively treaded tyre in the range, and it’s intended for mixed conditions. That’s clear in its tightly spaced V-shaped tread pattern and progressively angled surface sipes.
At 675g and 695g for the 45mm tyres we have on test, these are not the lightest race-oriented tyres in the class. A weight under 600g, and closer to 500g, would be more competitive.
Vittoria Terreno Pro T60 Mixed Gravel Race – Performance
Fitting the tyres was refreshingly straightforward, even when used with Vittoria Air-Liner Light gravel inserts. I was able to mount them onto Hunt 25 Carbon Gravel X-Wide wheels without tyre levers when the inserts weren’t installed, and with just a single lever when they were. In both cases, they seated easily and inflated without issue using a track pump.
The first corner on the first ride was slightly unnerving, as the tyres didn’t provide the same level of feedback and response through the bars that I had anticipated. Although I was running the inserts, this isn’t something I’ve typically found to be an issue before. However, by the end of that initial ride, I’d become accustomed to the feel and the limited amount of feedback on offer.
While the feedback may be less pronounced than expected, grip levels are certainly not lacking. The T60 Pro performs impressively across a wide range of surfaces, from smooth tarmac to the roughest byways and dirt tracks. On sealed roads, it rolls quickly, smoothly and quietly, and this confident ride continues as you transition onto gravel and dirt.
If there’s a weakness, it’s in sticky mud, where the tightly packed tread can hold mud longer than some rival patterns. On wet grass, traction is also limited, as it is with almost all gravel tyres, mostly due to the relatively low tread height. However, Vittoria doesn’t state that it’s built purely for mud, so I can forgive it a little here.
The tyre’s colour will no doubt divide opinion, but I found that the initially bright brown tone dulled to a more muted tan within a week of riding. Interestingly, the two tyres faded at slightly different rates, and this variation has continued throughout the test period.
Vittoria claims the updated materials improve puncture resistance. While I can’t verify this scientifically, I experienced no punctures or visible damage across nearly 1,000km of testing. The inserts may have offered additional protection, and running tubeless with sealant certainly helped during hedge-cutting season, but overall, there were no issues or areas of concern.
Vittoria Terreno Pro T60 Mixed Gravel Race – Verdict
Putting the colour of the casing aside and focusing purely on performance, the T60 Pro delivers impressive grip across almost every surface. It rolls quietly and efficiently, to the point that I’ve been happy to use it for everything from full road rides to rocky, technical terrain, and it has continued to impress throughout.
The new Terreno Pro range, including the T60, is priced at £85 per tyre. While premium race tyres continue to climb in cost, this marks a new high point for race-focused gravel rubber, aside from a few smaller brands like Rene Herse and Challenge with their handmade offerings. The Schwalbe’s G-One range, including the RS and RX, is £75 per tyre. There are also more affordable options, such as WTB’s SG2 models at around £65, including the Vulpine S, while the Kenda Crusher impressed in testing at just £55, though it’s less race-oriented.
Whether or not you’re a fan of Vittoria’s move away from the traditional casing colour, the T60 Pro stands out for its smooth, fast ride and consistently strong grip across a broad range of conditions. It’s at the top of the price bracket, but has such a rounded skillset, making it one of the best all-round tyres currently available.
