Lezyne Power Lever XL – Technical details
These are large levers which give plenty of leverage to fit tyres. The photo below gives an idea of scale next to a bog-standard lever you may get in a tube repair kit.
I’d argue you don’t need a lot of leverage with a good technique but for rims without much inner trough and particularly tight tyres, these levers should be more than enough. The added benefit of the size makes them comfortable to use if you do find yourself wrestling with a tricky tyre.
As with many tyre levers, these come with a spoke hook which acts as a third hand during tyre removal, this feature also allows the levers to clip together for some neat storage.
Made from fibre-reinforced plastic, these levers should be tough enough to really wrench on. The plastic construction also has the added benefit of protecting your alloy or carbon rims from damage.
Lezyne Power Lever XL – Performance
These levers live in my toolbox although, at a claimed 59g, they’d be easy enough to pack on a ride. I particularly like the sharp hook at the end of the lever which does a great job of holding onto the tyre during fitment. The quality is top notch, as you’d expect from Lezyne, and the plastic material has a slight sheen to it which allows it to slide nicely along the rim – handy when removing a tyre. The levers have proven sturdy and I have no cause for concern over potential breakages.
Lezyne Power Lever XL – Verdict
Available in black or yellow with an RRP of £6 these are hardly going to break the bank and would be a sensible purchase. Park Tool is another brand worth looking at, and its TL4.2 levers come in at £4 a pair. That said, they aren’t as large as the Lezyne ones and the hook at the end looks less pronounced but they’re certainly worth considering. If you want some very fancy levers and consider parting with £16, the Silca Tyre Lever Premio Set won’t disappoint you.
The Lezyne Power Lever XL does the job just fine. It’s sensibly priced, protects your rims and has plenty of hook and lever to move even the sturdiest tyre. At £6, it’s hard to argue with and I’d suggest, if you’re looking for the perfect tyre lever, these could be it.
