Muc-Off’s Disc Brake Covers are an effective and easy-to-use way of preventing lubricant overspray contaminating your disc brake rotors and pads, but the asking price is a bit steep considering what you’re getting.

The covers are pretty simple, using a flexible plastic back side with a slot that slips over the hub between your disc rotor and spokes with a neoprene outer that attaches via velcro to protect the calliper and disc from the outside.
It’s quick and easy to use and the flexible neoprene forms a decent seal over frame tubes that get in the way, allowing you to lube your chain or clean your cassette and mech with wild abandon. I was impressed by how much overspray it prevented from going on the rotor, even when I was being careful with the squirty lube.
While that’ll definitely save you cash in contaminated disc pads, reduce the general annoyance of howling dirty disc brakes while cutting down on nasty solvents needed to clean up afterwards, the £25 asking price for a pair seems rather excessive for a bit of velcro, plastic and neoprene. One of the covers will do for most people – unless you’re the sort of maniac that regularly applies frame polish – so you could go halvies with a mate to reduce that outlay.
They’ll cover all rotors easily enough, with enough space inside to even do the mighty 220mm items now being found on some e-bikes, and you can (carefully) wheel your bike around when they’re on too. I’m a big fan of the idea, but the price just seems a bit excessive.
