Morvelo Stealth Stormshield Knee Warmers keep your knees luxuriously warm down to about 3-5 degrees in foul weather. They are water repellent, stay up well and the plain black material means they will work well with most of your other riding kit.

These knee warmers from Morvelo are made from a thick Roubaix material for warmth and a windproof and highly water repellent fabric, called Stormshield, to block out the elements. It’s a highly elastic fabric with 4-way stretch and has the ability to move moisture away from your skin whilst blocking incoming water which makes it ideally suited bad weather riding.

There is no multi-panel shaping to the knee warmers, they are just straight stretchy tubes with a little logo on the bottom of each tube. Taking a lead from the images on their website, I wore them with the Stormshield logo to the front but there doesn’t appear to be a right or a wrong leg.

The knee warmers have silicon grippers on both the inside and the outside of the tops of the legs which work extremely well to grip your leg and the inside of your shorts. It’s an excellent solution and I found no thigh adjustments were required once riding which is good news as it’s difficult to adjust these once you are dressed in public.

I did find that there was an occasional need to pull them down a little onto my calf although not every ride, which indicates it was about getting the position spot on. Wearing them back to back with another popular brand, (Sportful) I found they bunched less behind the knee and remained comfortable throughout use.

I’ve used these knee warmers from late autumn through to early spring in all conditions from driving rain to falling snow and everything in-between and the performance has been excellent. They work as advertised and keep those precious knees warm and dry throughout your ride. They wash well and if they do show a reduction in water beading, Morvelo advises using an in-wash treatment (such as Nikwax) to return them to their full performance.

They do throw up one unintentional problem though, namely wet shorts. If you don’t have a matching Morvelo Stormshield bib shorts (or similar) material bib-short you will have warm dry knees and a cold wet backside. It’s worth considering a set or waterproof baggies for complete protection.

The Morvelo Stealth Stormshield Knee Warmers sit at the higher end of the market for this type of product with similar items from Madison and dhb available for £10 less. The Morvelo offering does undercut Pearl Izumi and is the same price as similar products from Castelli though. Their subtle looks and excellent performance make them a good choice that will work with all your other clothing, an excellent investment for your knees.

Like a lot of performance outdoor clothing wash without fabric conditioner and after heavy or long-term use the DWR will need to be topped up with a wash in brand like Nikwax or Grangers etc.
The fabric has a membrane though and will always retain its water resistance.

Conclusion:

An excellent pair of knee warmers with added water resistance. They cost a little more than some but they are well made, look great and have continued to work over a long wet winter test period.
