Without adding up id hazard a guess that Gilbert scored more fantasy points than Pozzovivo, as although high on GC didnt have that many stage placings, but could be wrong, as Gilbert scored more than Sammy
Top 20 Scorers in the Vuelta
Nicolas Roche 504
Alejandro Valverde 481
Christopher Horner 477
Vicenzo Nibali 422
Daniel Moreno 358
Joaquin Rodriguez 331
Domenico Pozzovivo 199
Edvald Boasson Hagen 178
Leopold Konig 171
Fabian Cancellara 160
Thibaut Pinot 156
Philippe Gilbert 156
Rigoberto Uran Uran 150
Maximiliano Ariel Richeze 149
Michael Matthews 143
Daniele Ratto 141
Nicolas Edet 131
Gianni Meersman 128
Bauke Mollema 126
Samuel Sanchez 125
I live for moments like this
Fair enough, I hadn't added it up, it was just a guess, but its quite tight
Zubeldia shouldn't have been a surprise, he's finished inside the top 20 of a grand tour 9 times
Richeze was a good sprinter before his ban and has got some of his form back lately, but getting a little old for sprinting
The best Purist team possible for the Vuelta? Mostly climbers, of course... Here's my stab at what would have been the best possible Purist team :
40.0 Alejandro Valverde
29.1 Vicenzo Nibali
20.9 Daniel Moreno
14.3 Nicolas Roche
12.9 Christopher Horner
12.8 Domenico Pozzovivo
9.5 Leopold Konig
6.1 Maximiliano Ariel Richeze
3.0 Haimar Zubeldia
For a total of 2792 points... benwatson1989's Rouleurs Revenge Purist) got 2229 points with the following riders:
Alejandro Valverde
Vicenzo Nibali
Sergio Luis Henao Montoya
Samuel Sanchez
Nicolas Roche
Tomasz Marczynski
David Arroyo Duran
Ivan Basso
Christopher Horner
I guess the biggest surpises for me were Richeze and Zubeldia, well, at least for the beginning of the Vuelta...
1= on a stage.
24th in purist overall and 1st in the forum.
187th overall but wasn't really playing for that after a bad start.
So not bad at all!
Congrats Alan! Foiled again - I've not won a purist or standard forum comp yet this season, despite being 25th overall in standard and 3rd (somehow) in purist!
50th in Vuelta purist and 95th in standard - I'll take that considering I came 575th in the Vuelta last year!
Thanks Chris. Wished I'd believed in Nicholas Roche but wasn't convinced by him even though he's the favourite rider of Phil Unwin, an erstwhile colleague. (Not convinced by Horner then or now but that's another thread and I don't want to set Gkam off on a rant )
13th on stage. unlucky in the sense that i mostly sucked otherwise
My best finish in a Grand Tour 82nd overall
& up into the top 50 overall!
1,2,5,8,13 + GC for Horndog, Nibs, Valderde & Roche.
60th on stage, finished 421st overall
Still, highest placed I've been on the whole of this Vuelta.
One winner on the final stage
1 Anaheim Dreamers capitalgull 185
I was MILES behind on 121 - 10
1,4,5,8,13 + Horner, Valverde, Nibali, edet
1,2,4,5,13,16
1,2,4,5,7,13 and a full house I think
Rubbish, just 1,5,13 for m
