Not sure the Australian pursuit is serious enough to be included in the Olympics, seems a bit of fun and a bit of a laugh compared to the individual TT, plus, you'd only have one of those two in the competition.
Don't forget the Aussie.
Nooo, keep the Omnium, I like it, it's the track cycling equivalent of the Pentathlon, plus, the more Laura Trott the better...
Ideally I'd like to see:
Keirin
Individual Sprint
Team Sprint
Individual Pursuit
Team Pursuit
Omnium
Kilo
Maddison
Points or Scratch race
all for each sex. Basically most of the World Champs calendar. Given how popular track cycling is I can't see the problem in expanding the time spent in the Velodrome although TV executives may not like having the cycling overlapping the swimming or athletics more but the track cycling this year all finished at around 6pm, well before the swimming and athletics finals started.
Do you think they'll have DH anytime soon in the Mclympics?
The Women's TP is being made 4km with 4 riders.
Cool.
And apparently they're bringing back the Kilo. While they're at it, they should rid of the Omnium, and introduce the Aussie Pursuit, Points Race and Scratch.
That would be an exciting programme.
And Introduce Hutch's stage race: a three week tour of the host country with small teams, a separate TT not counting towards overall, and medals only for the GC at the end.
ANNNNDD
Introduce things like 10, 25, 50, 12 and 24 TTs.
And a TTT, both two up and 9 up.
Now we're talking.
We only entered Annie Last & Liam Killeen because thats all we were allowed to enter after the amount of points those two collected over the time.
The French have Julie Bresset & Julian Absolon, Maxine Morrat, Tempier in the top 20 so they got more points.
We have some great up and coming MTB XC riders so hopefully come Rio it will still be in and we should have a couple more places.
As I've said elsewhere, the best way to break the GB dominance is to add more events to the track cycling at the Olympics and allow more than one entry per nation.
At the minute there are a maximum of ten medals on offer for each nation, compare that to the medals on offer in the pool or in the athletics which have far higher. Because there are far fewer medals on offer a lot of countries like China or US might not fund cycling to the level that GB does and so end up not doing as well.
Increase the total medals available to 16 or 20 (ie 8 or 10 events per sex) and allow multiple entries. That will mean that in the short term GB may win 25 or 30 medals, but in the long term Australia, USA, China or many other countries may see the track as somewhere they can potentially get medals and they'll start to throw money at their cycling programs. In the long term that'll break the GB dominance and spread the medals around as well as increasing the amount of cycling on offer pleasing the spectators who've really taken to it in the recent Olympics.
there were some rumours around allegedly the French bodies that regulate these rules trying to minimise a repeat of the British dominance of Beijing... but I would like to add that I would not stand by the rumours on the ground that they could be just spurious, and even if they were true they were about as successful as a beure teapot - LOL
