If, like us, you’re a bit partial to a mid-ride stop for a caffeine hit and a slice of cake, you’ll be interested in a new website, Patisserie Cyclisme, that aims to chart cyclist-friendly cafés throughout the UK, with reviews, directions and more.
The website is still in its infancy, but according to its creator, who on Twitter goes by the name Louise McCake (hmmm… - ed), “Everyone who cycles understands that at the very heart of our dear beloved sport/obsession are the fundamental components of coffee and cake.
“For many cafe stops are an integral part of the life of a cyclist, it not only gives the weary legs a break but after burning oh so many calories we can top up with cake and chat technical stuff or the pro scene and be generally social.”
Obviously to provide as comprehensive coverage as possible of the UK’s bike-friendly cafés, user input is crucial, and there is a handy review template allowing you to flag up your local coffee stop, or perhaps somewhere new you’ve come across while trying out an unfamiliar route.
There are of course other tools out there that log details of cycling cafés – the Bike Hub iPhone app, for one, allows you to find ones nearby while you are out and out on the bike – but none as far as we are aware that make coffee, cake and cycling as central a part of their proposition.
In keeping with the site’s social aspect, Patisserie Cyclisme also has a page on Facebook as well as a Twitter feed. Happy cycling, coffee drinking and cake munching!

...or even http://www.cafe.southlakesgroup.org/ the excellent cake-centric cyclists guide to cafes of the north.
I'm not sure what my second claim club www.velocake.co.uk would have to say about this. Something about prior art. I'll see what their legals say.
I guess it's a broad church though, with room for all pastry disciples, and we should extend the sticky hand of friendship.
Well, it wouldn't be fake, it would just mean someone hadn't added it yet. Now's your chance
If is doesn't have "Love Coffee.... ....and Food?" in Gifford, then it is a fake, that is a truly cycle friendly café, they even have their own cycling jerseys...
