The Solway Spinner sportive should definitely feature on your 2019 calendar!
This classic route in north Cumbria offers some of the flattest roads in the county, but you don’t need hills to get great views here. The Solway and coastal roads offer sights of Scotland and the Irish Sea as you ride west from Carlisle towards the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The route heads through the villages of Port Carlisle and Anthorn, before heading west again at Kirkbride. The feed station awaits you at the seaside town of Silloth, where you can replenish your bidon and then follow the coastal road south towards Mawbray. From here, you will head east via the top tip of Wigton until you get back to Carlisle where a bacon butty and brew awaits you!
With under 500m of elevation, this 100km route is perfect for a fast ride out. It’s also great for those looking to take on their first kilometre century.
