This early season sportive is designed to blow away the cobwebs of winter and with a few testing climbs to prime the body for longer rides as the weather starts to improve.
All three rides start with a shock as they head skywards after just 10 kilometres with the twin-pronged, yet short climb of Hascombe Hill. Following this rude awakening, they rise and fall continuously all the way to Loxford where the Standard and Epic routes split on their way to the Surrey Hills. Those on the Standard route will just skirt the edge of the 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' as it heads into Cranleigh but the Epic route plunges right into their heart.
Climbing up through the quiet leafy lanes there is a whole load of altitude to be gained into Holmbury St Mary, through Farley Green and finally up to the highpoint of the day Alderbrook Road. This twisting, steep and narrow road is a classic Surrey Hills climb, hidden under a permanent canopy of branches which will ensure you've worked hard for your post-ride refreshments back at the HQ.
Featured climb. Alderbrook Road
Coming right at the end of the Epic route this climb lies in wait to finish off your sore legs. Not as hard as its neighbour Barhatch Lane it's still pretty tough and really starts to kick up once you pass its 1-in-7 warning sign. Twisting through the woods, this narrow path, trapped at the base of the high banks either side is a quintessential Surrey Hills climb which will need serious grunt to tackle.
