An up and coming rider with AG2R-La Mondiale’s development squad has been killed in an accident while hiking on in the French Alps Saturday.
Etienne Fabre, aged 20, had been on a trip in the Bauges mountains in the Rhones-Alpes region with four friends, says Velo Club Rodez, which he joined when he was 11.
The aspiring pro cyclist left Velo Club Rodez in 2015 to join Chambery Cyclisme Formation, AG2R-La Mondiale’s development team.
This summer, he became a stagiaire at the WorldTour outfit itself, taking part in races including Paris-Tours.
AG2R-La Mondiale said it had learnt of the news “with much sadness,” and sent its condolences to Fabre’s family, who are still coming to terms with his father being left tetraplegic after a bad crash while cycling last month.
