Campaigners have placed 1,000 missing bike posters around London as new analysis reveals demand for secure storage has increased by a fifth – but some local authorities still show no signs of installing hangars
It has been reported the infrastructure has caused at least 76 injuries since it was installed in March 2022, Jacob Rees-Mogg branding it a "failed experiment" after numerous reports of pedestrians tripping
The £1 million project is subject to a public consultation, one resident undertaking his own cyclist count and claiming the council has artificially inflated the numbers
The post has been reported to the council multiple times, one resident calling for the cycle lane to be closed in the meantime for safety
One local who broke his wrist and humerus after tripping over a cycle lane 'armadillo' said the cycle lane dividers are the same colour as the pavement, making them difficult to see
The local authority says the advisory lane will “allow space for everyone” and “strike the right balance” by having “very little impact on traffic”
The controversial protected lane has been the site of a number of pedestrian and cyclist injuries, as well as frequent illegal parking by motorists, since it was opened last year
A cyclist injured in a collision with a rider travelling the wrong way along a two-lane cycle path said he regularly sees couriers "come down the cycle lane at full chap", the police admitting that some are "absolutely" not using legal bikes
Despite the council announcing mitigation for blue badge holders, tradespeople and emergency service workers, the news that parking spaces will be removed to make way for the cycling infrastructure has not gone down well
The £13.4 million project was supported by 73 per cent of people during consultation, however some now say they have become frustrated with delays and overrunning works, one trader claiming that Christmas is "basically ruined"
Confused locals shared pictures of the new infrastructure, which features a pedestrian crossing post and a bench in the middle of the shared-use route
The local authority and residents, however, say the seafront active travel route will increase safety, improve air quality, and boost tourism
“We have all got too used to the idea that road space is something we can help ourselves to, as much as we like, whenever we like”
The notoriously dangerous roundabout underwent a series of safety measures following the death of a university academic last year, however a councillor has now warned the "extra measure" of a number plate recognition camera is required
“We are not against cycling. We need them somewhere around here but not on our business parking spaces”
“At this rate the new path will not be safe to use in the next few months,” the cyclist said, after noticing the surface crumble and deteriorate over the summer
“I always dream that one day I'm going to have a bus or big lorry go straight [through] here because they’re crazy,” said one resident
“I was astonished by the contraption I saw in front of me... This is an unnecessary obstruction and needs to be removed”
In 2015, a cyclist who had worked with the Queen in her role as a designer was killed in a collision at the junction, which will now get protected cycle lanes and early release traffic lights to better protect cyclists
Death threats were also sent to an MP and his loved ones by the anti-LTN protestors, who is asking people to “calm down”
The opposition leader, however, said that the council was “wasting time” bidding for money to duplicate existing cycle lanes instead of improving the city’s disjointed cycling network
Leeds City Council says the new infrastructure, set to be installed on a “busy, narrow” road used by schoolchildren, will “keep people safe”
Cllr Andy Morgan questioned whether the infrastructure could have protected anyone from a collision and said it was "overwhelming rejected" by local residents in an act of "democracy"
The route features a segregated cycle lane and other upgrades, but leaves the pavement as narrow as 90cm wide in some places
“What they are trying to do is make a Holland of us. It’s one of those woke agenda schemes,” one business owner said
Drivers have reported being "confused and worried" by the new road layout, allowing cyclists to travel against traffic on the one-way street
Jacob Rees-Mogg called the infrastructure a "failed experiment", the changes in kerb height causing many people problems
One councillor said he wants the closure reversed despite being a former cyclist who got knocked off his bike twice by drivers who were not looking where they were going
A safety audit noted that the cycle lane’s design “may increase the risk of collisions”, prompting the council to install a narrow painted “buffer zone”
The council says that scooters and mopeds will be banned from the waterside path, which will create “one of the few pleasant” active travel routes in the area and encourage “novice and nervous” cyclists
