A Glasgow cyclist hit by the driver of a passing car had his bike stolen while he was being treated by paramedics. “It’s despicable,” said Mike Etter.
The Scottish Sun reports that on Monday Etter was riding from his home in Crosshill to work in the city centre when he was ‘left hooked’ by a car.
“It came really close to me and tried to turn so I was trapped,” he said.
“I came off and rolled over the road. I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t really move and I was crumpled up on the road.”
Paramedics attended the scene, but Etter’s Aventon bike was taken while he was being treated.
Writing on Facebook, he said: “If anyone knows what my bike looks like, keep an eye out for it. It was stolen while I was in an ambulance after a car crashed into me.”
He added: “I’m shocked and disgusted someone could do this while a person is lying in an ambulance. Who in their right mind could be so immoral?
“I couldn’t believe I’d gone through all that pain to then have my bike stolen. It’s despicable.”

These scumbags are everywhere. I remember my mate binning his motorbike and being taken away in the ambulance. I waited with the bike for his old man to turn up with his van and I remember I kept seeing the same guys driving past in vans like vultures. Pretty sure if I’d not been there the bike would have disappeared within minutes. Wouldn’t surprise me if they ran radio scanners to clean up after accidents.

Same thing happened near me to a disabled chap with a mobility scooter who was taken unwell.
I don’t understand how some people can have such a lack of basic decency.

Missus was knocked off two years ago on Rye Lane in Peckham. Ambulance came, bike there for nicking… and a local took Kate’s number and looked after it until I could pick it up.

This was precidely why I didn’t go to A&E when I was knocked off some years back. Despite a fracture in my elbow I refused to be taken to the hospital (which wasn’t my local one and a real pain to get home, longer to get home even than by bike) Plod said they were going to leave my bike by the side of the road, just great I thought, because how the hell am I going to get someone to collect it miles away from home before the vultures descend on it.
So the ambulance stuck a sling on, I signed off the forms and cycled the 15 miles home which included incl a dual carriageway with a long downhill section, 45mph was interesting one handed

I went over the bars in a local wood and damaged all the muscle in my leg. I managed to drag myself through the wood to the road. I kind driver stopped, made sure I was okay, called the emergency services and then retrieved my bike from the wood. The chap came to the hospital to give me his details and kept my bike in his garage until I was off crutches.
Some people are nice.

That’s reminded me of another tale of human kindness. When I was 18 my mate crashed his mini into a ditch (claimed blowout but I think he was just crap) and a nice gentleman stopped and offered to take him to hospital as he’d broken his leg. This was before the days of mobiles remember.
Had to pay him £10 first though. What an angel.

I got hit by a van a couple of years ago. The paramedics put the bike in the ambulance with me (in fact, they put it in before getting me in) and took it to the A&E (Chelsea and Westminster). The bike was then put in the A&E cubicle i was in, then moved to resuss with me, and then moved up onto the ward. Not the norm I know, but it really was a nice touch when I was in a really bad state

I think the London Ambulance Service and NHS staff in London are so used to seeing cyclists ending up in their care they are used to dealing with patients and their + 1. Happened to me at St Thomas’ my bikes care was just as good as the care given to me.

When I got knocked off and knocked out, I made ambulance take bike with us. Only place to put it at Newham General while I was treaed was the chapel of rest, which was appropriate as it was snapped in half… Groupset was fine though and reused.
a fella i worked with used
a fella i worked with used the main library in wolverhampton town centre lot..while locking his bike up outside he had an epileptic fit, he came round, some bastard had his bike away and the books he was returning..he laughed at work telling everyone because one of the books was faulkners as i lay dying..one of his favourites..this was in the early eighties..so appalling behaviour like this isn’t new.
