His favourite ride is his ‘commute’ – which he does most days inc weekends and he’s been cycle-commuting since 1994. His favourite bikes are titanium and have disc brakes, though he’d like to own a carbon bike one day.

@kinderje Young Offenders' Institutions in England and Wales are for 15-21 year olds (15-17s are kept strictly segregated from the older internees). He should be transferred to an adult prison when he turns 21. On the face of it being banned from driving doesn't seem much of a punishment when, as you say, he has no licence, but the length of the ban means that when he gets out of prison after four years and eight months he won't be able to apply for a driving licence for another five years, so it's something. Not enough, maybe, but something.

More for the bad driving round-up: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj36z5zydrgo Slightly surprisingly they didn't excuse a vulnerable older woman, nor listen to "but what about my dog?" / "I need my car for my job" (meeting criminals, appropriately) angles. Not did they consider that it was in a 20mph zone and everyone ignores those, it wasn't even 30mph... (It seems she argued the signs were confusing, it was a very short distance and she was nearly overtaken / hit by a cyclist...) Can't Andy Burnam sort out the care side of things so we can all fund her taxis?

The first time I heard it I thought it was "headset". I think he could do with his bearings changed. (OTOH from his perspective he's probably living his best life; albeit he has to look serious when delivering whatever nonsense the commander in chief has thought up overnight).

@ktache very likely, but for excellent reasons while we can speculate the courts shouldn't. In a better world we'd be aiming higher with rehabillitation. But "let's spend lots more cash on people who've done bad things" is rarely a vote-winner.

On a slightly different
On a slightly different Olympic vibe I heard on the news today that the IoC are going to scrap the Olympic Torch relay after 2016. So that’ll be for the 2020 Olympics in 12 years time – on security grounds. And I thought the world of protest, espionage, terrorism and security must be fast paced. Obviously not if they need a 12 year run up.
Shame too cos the torch relay was my favourite event at the last Olympics – we won that didn’t we? 😕
Err, where’s the BMX track
Err, where’s the BMX track then? That looked remarkably like a few temporary ramps with a novice wobbling around and only one decent trick rider. If a temporary ramp is all we can put up for a track then we’ll look remarkably amateur as a nation.
