a KMC 9spd chain will work
a KMC 9spd chain will work and you can find one that suits your budget

and they have tools-free split-links which are useful for winter bikes as the chain can be taken off and cleaned easily, prolonging life

(edit) just like that one ^

all the ladies i know that
all the ladies i know that cyclocross use a ‘mans’ bike and change the bars/stem/saddle to fit so your best bet is probably to find a bike that’s about right and fiddle about a bit

i do know some smaller ladies that have plumped for a kids Islabike ‘cross bike as well because the dimensions were just right

at the end, winding
at the end, winding anti-clockwise on the right and clockwise on the left, so that the natural action of the hands on the bars tightens the tape rather than wanting to unravel it

the Park Tool site is always a good place to look

a quick nip up the road to play on the cross bike round the Surrey Hills.
was just getting into it when there was that horrible noise from the back end of a branch ripping the rear-mech into the spokes.
somehow a spoke was between the two jockey-wheel in between the two plates of the mech, and the bottom jockey-wheel bolt had stripped the rear cage thread.
a quick rummage around in the mud for the bits, and a bodge using a water-bottle bolt to hold the bottom jockey-wheel in just to get back to the car
not much mileage at all but soft-pedalling home while the gears are all over the place hoping the bodge will hold up the last hill means it’s a ride yeah?

i say go with whatever your conscience/pedantry is most happy with

i’m treating Sussex as the one county for my home shire because i live right on the East/West border so bagging the other half would be too easy

don’t get too carried away with it or i may just class the Isle of Wight as a foreign destination Wild Card 😉

ah yes, apologies, the Ergo
ah yes, apologies, the Ergo thing confused me because they’re not even what is recognised as an ergo bend, they’re compact 😕

if you have a look for a side view of the Deda bar you’ll see that the tops are slightly squashed flat, but it’s not as pronounced as the 3Ts.

FSA do a Wing Compact bar with flattened tops, i’ve used them and like them lots

no, not all Ergo bars have a flat top, but those Dedas were reviewed on road.cc a while ago and they do have a flattened top section

as an aside ‘Ergo’ usually refers to a certain bend to the handlebar rather than whether they have a egg-shaped top section, that’s just a 3T naming thing

December done, wet, windy but thankfully warm for the time of year, which helped.

the ride was definitley helped along by remembering the previous 1100 miles and all the people i’d ridden with, the smiles, and some of the pain.
may have got a bit emotional at one point, thank you everyone.

another month completely
another month completely banjaxed by a snuffly cold leading to yet another last-day panic.

luckily it was a beautifully sunny day if a little nippy and GavinT and i teamed up to tick our November boxes.

about a third of the way in we both went down hard on black ice leading to a variety of aches and bruises but we embraced the spirit of Hoogerland and carried on, if a little gingerly round all the corners

just one more to go, what could possibly go wrong……….
