Rendel, I’ve been refreshing
Rendel, I’ve been refreshing this page for ages hoping you have finished the challenge & survived it, so I could raise 3 cheers to you both. But I guess you’ve more important recovery and general flop tasks to do than update the page, so I’ll just say “hooray, hooray, hooray” now. You’ve done an amazing thing and lots of arses will be more comfortable now because of the pain you and your wife have put your own through. Not to mention the impact on disease control etc.
So a huge “well done”!

I agree, anything above 5 deg
I agree, anything above 5 deg is too warm for neoprene. But on a cold and really wet day they are wonderful. The kind of day when any “waterproof” glove will fail. You have damp but warm hands – complete with prune style wrinkles as if you’ve been in the bath too long. It’s a bit counter intuitive but it works – unless you allow the gloves to get cold at a coffee stop (RIP).
I read somewhere that industrial freezer gloves are good and should be available at your local Machine Mart or equivalent.

Just on other thing you might
Just on other thing you might like to think about: as and when the cable to the caliper needs replacing, make sure you have a nice generous curve (not too tight) as this also cuts friction. Too tight lost me some hair as I could never get the brake to centre, and a rubbing brake is bad news at my tiny power level and gigantic weight.TheBillder
Agree with all these,
Agree with all these, especially Galibier – the Mistral windproof bib tights are also very good. I did think the pad was a bit far forward but realized it’s just that I need to get a bit aero.Only sadness is that the Gino windproof jersey that I promised myself for Christmas has been updated and the new one doesn’t seem as nice (to me). The old version is on sale (small and medium) at under £40 just to make me feel even worse…

My son has a Bolt, I have an old Garmin 810 bought used. We ride together a fair bit so can do a side by side comparison. The Bolt is fine for following a breadcrumb trail – there have been times when it’s clearer than the turn by turn on the Garmin, especially if the route is slightly inaccurate (eg overshooting junctions by a tad when drawing it or deriving from a Strava ride).
Where the Garmin (& the Roam AFAIK) win though is if you want to go off route for an explore. The Bolt map is not easy to read; colour makes things easier.
My 810 has only ever failed with water in the barometric sensor, but I also get very few punctures so clearly just lucky! Wahoo’s reliability rep is a lot better.

One of the easier ways to
One of the easier ways to reduce city congestion, along with raising the cost of the remaining spaces (with appropriate residential and mobility impaired concessions). It’s cheaper to do than road pricing. There’s another interesting article on that site: https://www.itsinternational.com/its3/news/parking-expert-end-monopolys-free-parking.
Near the end there’s a stat that the USA has more parking space per car than housing space per person, which really seems the wrong way round.
Thanks for posting hp, an interesting read.

Both of these points are
Both of these points are excellent but the second is excellenter.I have to remind myself, often after work when sprawling with a gin is calling me with its siren voice, that I’ve never come back from a ride wishing I hadn’t gone. Even if I’ve crashed or punctured. Perhaps I’ve been lucky, but I’m not so sure. There’s just something about riding, even if just for half an hour.
My addition though is always budget time and money for a cake stop.

“The fact that the suspect
“The fact that the suspect was fleeing from police is a decent indicator that he is not a saint.”Plenty of people in this country fear the police because they don’t believe they’ll be treated fairly. And that may make their reactions different to yours or mine with their amygdala getting control over the rest of the brain.
If you are white and middle class in the UK you are less likely to be stopped by the police and more likely to be treated properly. Outside that demographic, you have a higher chance of being cuffed, searched, spending a night in a cell, etc.
I was stopped for speeding in France in the 90s. In the back of the police car I realised that the officer had a gun and almost had a bowel movement. Rational risk to me? Near zero. Unconscious response? A bit different.
So please do not assume that those who panic and make off are automatically guilty and deserve birching.

Glad to see someone else
Glad to see someone else raising the topic of cracks. Some of the internet chat on Ti frames makes it seem as if they’d survive an asteroid strike in the gazillionth century.Whilst I’m sure there are plenty of great frames that will survive 100,000 km and jumps off Beachy Head, my son’s (used, old) Ribble developed chainstay cracks. The LBS that found them said that they see this quite often.
So buy a Ti frame for the performance and the looks, but please don’t make assumptions about amazing longevity. It’s a good material for frames but not magical.
