    The original Cool Tool,

The original Cool Tool, constantly in my bag from the early 90s, lost the 6mm crosshead key, replaced with a standard 6mm hex, and broke the headset spanner addition. The 15mm crank bolt socket is still my go-to to remove/tighten the specialized ti crank bolts on my Getting to Work bike (retired)

    Syncros made a solution,

Syncros made a solution, their cattle prod stem with hinge.

Always lusted after one, but went for the standard cattleprod for my (now retired) Getting to Work bike.

    There was never anything

There was never anything wrong with the quill stem, it was the double locking nuts that would occasionally cause a problem.

Bearing seals on wheel hubs and lights have come on in leaps and bounds and I wouldn’t want to go back to the early 90s there.

    Tightening up by one notch

Tightening up by one notch might allow things to move and then release.

Incidentally, if you don’t have a locking removal tool with the “locator pin” you can use a QR skewer, if it’s a QR wheel. Also can be used, even tightened down if trying to get proper purchase with a square taper BB removal tool, if the spindle is hollow.

    I wish.

    I wish.

Still haven’t wrapped the loop yet, have the bar tape and I’ve watched videos and figured out the twist, but I would like to practice. Must see if the LBS is throwing some old stuff out.

I have to rate my Jones H

I have to rate my Jones H bars. So comfy. Flat bars of course.

They do need to be quite high to take some of the weight off them so you need a fair bit of steerer left, and the stack is not pretty aesthetically.

And a couple or three degrees off the 45 that they come back would be true perfection for me, but that is just a niggle. And a better selection of looong grips.

I like the idea of x-ray film

I like the idea of x-ray film as tyre boots.

I have seen fully exposed and developed sheets used to view eclipses.

In several lab jobs I was the unfortunate responsible for maintaining the developer, weeklyish cleaning and refreshing the chemicals. Darkrooms are never well ventilated.

The service engineers referred to the chemicals as “the chemistry” which I always appreciated.

I like that we use gel doc systems now, though the sensitivity you could get…

I went to visit my mother

I went to visit my mother down in Bexhill over the week, and whilst sitting in a fine Italian restaurant by the Delaware I spotted an illuminated 20 sign. I forgot to investigate after. Very full and having enjoyed a Long Man ale. And I mean backlit with LEDs, not lamp above or neon on Perspex.

The driver of the HUGE Audi.

We could believe he was driving at under what he thought was the speed limit of 40mph.

Or, slightly over what many motorists wrongly believe is the acceptable 35mph level at which they are allowed to drive in a 30mph zone.

    I will let you decide?

    I believe those vehicles are

I believe those vehicles are actually designed not to be able to maintain traction with the road surface while being driven below posted speed limits.
