    Good fit certainly starts
Good fit certainly starts with position of saddle relative to BB which I guess is why there are offset posts. I did have a frame once where I’d have needed a 30mm layback post to fit comfortably, but that was an extreme example.

It’s a good point about pad

It’s a good point about pad positioning and design. I returned a pair recently which had an abrupt end to the pad rather than an absorbent/soft insert at the tip, could see that they would chafe unpleasantly. Currently riding in a pair of incredibly comfy PlanetX 365 bibs, an absolute bargain at £15 (two for £30 deal on at present)

Do you like peanuts? I used

Do you like peanuts? I used to make raw peanut butter, raisin, and date energy bites for long rides. Pop them in the freezer and they’ll stay hard enough for two-three hour ride (unless it’s been as hot as it has been the past week).

Now admittedly all three of those ingredients are somewhat pushy in the bowel department, but I found that they didn’t upset my stomach in the same way as gels do. And to my taste buds, they tasted better too. Give a good concentrated hit of protein sugar and salt in a bite. Once you get the consistency right you can vary the ingredients, the peanut butter acts as the binding agent.

Malt loaf and fig rolls are another option (yet again though, can be a bit scouring in large quantities).

    In decades of watching bike

In decades of watching bike racing I’ve never seen such a speed differential in a crash. I’m amazed that neither rider was seriously injured or killed. You can tell how bad it was from the commentators, even once they could see she was moving. I get that it’s important to chase to get back but why was she full gas on a descent when the pack were in sight? It’s not like she could go through and on with the bunch across the road.

The whole race so far has reminded me of Wk1 of last year’s TdF, so many big crashes. The gravel on today’s stage made Arenberg look pan flat, and they should have limited the cars ahead of the lead rider, visibility was appalling.

    Shared space paths only

Shared space paths only really work where one user type dominates the volume of traffic. From my time commuting into Southampton most of the paths west of the city had few pedestrians and as such conflicts were minimised. Compare that with the area around West Quay and they’re crap for pedestrians and cyclists alike. Whilst demarcated pedestrians tend to follow desire lines and don’t stay in their “lane” – it’s natural when walking to take the shortest route. And as walking speeds vary you end up with pedestrians overtaking others using the bike part of the path. Plus, just like cyclists, pedestrians like to walk side-by-side, particularly if its parents and children. Such paths are only safe for all users if cyclists keep to no more than 3x walking pace. Personally I hated the unpredictability of them and as an experienced/confident cyclist preferred to take my chances in the road.

Looks like QR to me from the photos so I reckon they must just provide convertible endcaps. After all, there’s not such thing as a 15mm QR.

Halo no longer list the Vapour in 26″ so I’d double check that the rear wheel is actually available, that 4-6 weeks estimate often means “We don’t know when stock is coming”

Might be worth contacting this guy, he’ll build to order and uses quality components. Wheels very much designed for UK use too https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165512074722?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=AvvirVmbQPG&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=QB2vHm_kTna&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Those Q7s are huge with very poor visibility for the driver at low speeds, particularly if you’re on the short side. Very difficult to gauge where the car’s extremities are from the driver’s seat.

Having said that, most modern cars seem to suffer from this. I find it easier to park my Volvo 940 than our VW Up (which even has parking sensors). Part of the issue is non-horizontal belt lines/front window trims.

I think I’d have waved her

I think I’d have waved her through at the 2:55 mark, enough space there to single out and just let off the gas a little. I ride that sort of road all the time and more than happy to pull to the side in that situation to let them past. I’ll also wave drivers past on twisty roads where I’ve got a better view of the road ahead than them. Equally, if its not safe to pass I’ll ride central to prevent it.

    Completely agree with
Completely agree with Pollenca. The old town just inland has a great market, is very picturesque, and has excellent restaurants. Boat trips from the harbour are memorable, I’m not sure if the square rigger is still running (daily cruises). And weather is still good in October, and sea still warm. There are some high end hotels around there because it’s a bit of a rich Spanish playground (not quite Monaco but it has that feel).

Is there space from the shell
Is there space from the shell end to fit the little rubber cable donuts you sometimes see on bare cabled bikes? Alternatively, would it be possible to run full length housing? A zip tie might also work if there’s enough space, it’s what Shimano use to stop Di2 cables rattling

    They’ve been selling on eBay

They’ve been selling on eBay for at least three years. They’ll be machine-built from cheap components. That’s not to say they’ll be a bad wheel but as you’ve found out they may need fettling. That’s not a problem if you’ve got the skills/gear/time, but if you’ve got the skills/gear/time then you’re better off just building your own.

For what it’s worth I once had a brand new Raleigh Trubuild wheel (not cheap at £100 about 7 years ago) go out of true to the point it lost all tension within 2 miles on the first ride. Fortunately it was a rear wheel
