Odd. Could it have been something like a stick getting between spokes and stays, though that would probably have made a bang. Otherwise, I’d be looking at chain and rear cassette, though whenever I’ve had a chain misbehave it’s not rideable until it’s freed.

Anyhow, glad it wasn’t worse and get well soon.

Great to see you here again,
Great to see you here again, Don.

Quite a while ago, I got into an argument with a ped on Valentine bridge in Bristol (behind Temple Meads Station) when the cheesegrater bridge was closed (lorry damaged). It was busy, so I was going at the same speed as the peds and being careful. He confronted me about not using a bell (I do have one) and I told him that I genuinely didn’t think it was needed. He asked what I’d’ve done if he’d suddenly stopped or turned as he didn’t know I was behind him and I answered that I’d just stop as I wasn’t going fast (and squirrel like reflexes). His mate overheard and confirmed that I was going real slow. Anyhow, we ended up disagreeing about whether cycling was allowed on that bridge and the non-official signs, but shook hands and went our own ways.

Some peds just have past issues with cyclists and bells, so just do what you think is best and safe.

I had a quick look and they’ve listed natto (basically soya beans fermented in straw) as one of their disgusting foods. Admittedly, it’s a strange, stringy kind of texture, but I do like the cheesy taste. Great source of vitamin K2 as well.

    And here’s some Brewdog bottles

Time to switch from road bikes to gravel bikes, then?

At least here in the UK it’s rare for the temperature to get as high as that quoted for Los Angeles.

Didn’t Dave Prowse sometimes claim that he first found out he’d been overdubbed by James Earl Jones was when he went to see the finished film…?

I found out that the first Green Cross Code infomercials had him dubbed to avoid his Bristolian accent, although the last one kept his original voice.

Really? I’m sure I remember seeing Sebastian Shaw (an accomplished harmonica player) in that role

Some of the issues can be due to cold shock which polymerises the latex in the sealant. What I always try to do is to position the valve at the top of the wheel (12 o’clock position) so that the CO2 can warm slightly before hitting the sealant at the bottom of the wheel.

Another vote for the Beto air

Another vote for the Beto air tank from me.

Most of the time, tricky-to-seat tubeless tyres are down to having slightly leaky rim tape or valve or the tyre not being lubricated enough to move easily (wipe dilute washing up liquid around the beads to help with this). Air compressors work around both of those issues, but usually I can seat a tyre using just a standard track pump – the Beto is for the difficult ones.

Switching to metric distances and speeds is one of the best free upgrades you can have as a cyclist.

Though keep the climbing measurements in feet.

My Genesis bike came with the Di2 junction box attached like that – I think it’s quite common. Rather than using the rubber band thingy to attach to your stem, you can get a headset spacer with a bracket to attach the junction box to, but it doesn’t really make much difference to how neat it is.
