Whoa. @Pilot Pete – do you happen to know off the top of your head if that’s for a pair ? I also like that they have a super-long length – would be perfect.

Companion app on Android A3 did refuse to show the map although everything else worked fine i.e. dashboard, zwifters etc.

There are some issues on the Companion app maps when using the new worlds (Innsbruck and New York). My companion app did exactly that on stage 2 of the Tour de Zwift (NYC) and when I posted to the Zwift forums about it, it appears it is quite a widespread issue.

I was avised to update the app to the latest version (which it already was) and make sure everything was properly closed and reopened, but made no difference when I did a short ride in NYC last week.

Will be interesting to see whether there is a map in Innsbruck this evening for stage 7.

FWIW just done stage 7 and the map is missing again on the companion app – Samsung J5/6 (on Android 7.1.1), Zwift Companion App v 3.0.3 (527). It’s been a pain for a while, no indication/confirmation of reproducing it from Zwift yet that I know of.

Be careful with the raw stats

Be careful with the raw stats on this; there has been a lot of press and research into it and there is no clear signal; initiallly a lot states reported signficant drops in related incidents – but was it due to increased policing during the legislation change – then a rise – but was that also due to the increase in opioid use, or the increased trace retention time in the body of cannabinoids – or something else and so on.

    Motor vehicle deaths have

Motor vehicle deaths have been more or less on the increase in the US in the last 5 years, having dropped for a number of years before that, drug related deaths are just increasing faster. Not sure it’s a great message for road safety.

I thought I was replacing a pair of Mavic Cosmic Elites but I’ve ended up with a pair of Mavic Cosmic Elite USTs (which came pre-fitted with Mavic Yksion Elite tyres) – not paying enough attention before producing the credit card.

I’m a tubeless / UST virgin and not that comfortable with the idea of tubeless (old dog, new tricks sort of thing).

Does anyone know if I can run these wheels with regular tyres (e.g. Continental GP 4 Season) and tubes?

If they’re Mavic Yksion Elites they should be regular clinchers, the Mavic WTS wheelsets fitted with tubeless would be using the Mavic Yksion Pro UST IIRC.

    If you can fit the

If you can fit the Specialized Roubaix Pro, i’d give them a punt with the Orange Seal. Also worth sticking instant patches and a fiver / flexible plastic in your pocket/seat-bag for a tyre boot (for big rips) and maybe look at a worm pack for punctures that the sealant might struggle with on it’s own but smaller than a big rip. Not tried them, but these look alright and cheap

    A number of recent Giants

A number of recent Giants have tubeless-ready wheelset, so worth double checking if you haven’t already. If you need one, eBay for used (lots normally) or Chainreaction Prime Peloton wheels look decent value for new – ÂŁ135 and PayPal credit terms available.

Sealant wise, i’ve heard a lot of good things about Orange Seal Endurance but not used it – Stans historically but i’m nearly out and will try the Orange next.

Tyres – depends where you’re thinking of riding I guess. For road Hutchinson Fusion 5 / Mavic Yksion Pro UST (nearly the same) have good reviews, IRC if you can get and afford, and Schwalbe Pro Ones are obvious classics. Personally i’m loving the Specialized S-Works Turbo 2Bliss in 28mm – lovely fast ride, insane grip, really comfy, from Irvine Cycles, but looks like they’ve sold out now. They do have the Paris-Roubaix (beefier) version still at ÂŁ 43.50 a pair, but that’s a 30/32mm tyre so clearance might be an issue.

You can choose worlds (and default course for each) anytime you want using zwiftpref

    https://zwifthacks.com/zwiftpref/

..so you could, if you wish, choose to always ride the Alpe du Zwift on Watopia with a one-time setup on that app. Rumour still has it that official world selection in the pipe-line at some point, and race / event organisers can already select which world they want to use regardless of the schedule.

As others have alluded to more or less – don’t rely on it and don’t fret it, it’s almost entirely nonsense.

However, to me, from an engineering point of view, the lengthened seat post gives a weaker overall assembly :

Why ? It trades off strength and rigidity in some areas with flexibility in others. That may or may not be a good idea depending on where and how you do it.

Yes – this may be desirable.

#2 – Because the seat post can flex more, that induces less confidence to the rider

Why ? On what is this opinion based ?

    Graz_Lag wrote:
#3 – Where is the point to shorten the seat tube if after the “cut” you are obliged to add – in the form of the seat post, the same length you have cut away in the frame ?

For some of the reasons given to you by the people above.

I rather keep my standard frame with horizontal top tube – but and most of all, the freedom to select my size, thus not depending from the sizes the manufacturers have chosen for me.

You can – the decision by some manufacturers to use compact frame geometries doesn’t effect your choice.

The history repeats itself : sooner or later, in order to force all of us replacing our actual sloping frames, manufacturers will go back to the original bike frames with horizontal top tube.

No-one will be forcing anybody to do anything if history is any guide – you can still buy plenty of frames with horizontal top-tubes and have been able to do so in the 20+ years since compact frames on road bikes where made widely available.

    Graz_Lag wrote:
Because as @ Daveyraveygravey said : and a horizontal top tube makes a proper bike

That’s just personal opinion – about as far away from fact as you’re likely to get but obviously very important to the person choosing the bike. If you just want to say you don’t like compact frames then do so and been done with it – you’ll find plenty of people on here and elsewhere that will agree with you. That has nothing to do with engineering or frame design though.

The bike sellers will tell us the story that with this new frame design one rider can get higher pedaling efficiency  đꙂ

Why would they do that ? I’ve personally never heard anyone make this claim but as you’ve made this assertion a couple of times now perhaps i’ve just missed it – could you please let me know where it comes from ? Thanks.

The OP was considering a new bike – if that wasn’t for the gearing alone then the difference in cost between those two might be moot. It also doesn’t sound like they’re trying to significantly extend the bottom range, just compare the options of double to triple.

Edit : I would love to put a smaller ring on the inner of my 50-39-30 but can’t go any lower due to Shimano’s odd mounting decision for the FC-4603 meaning it has a 92mm BCD granny rather than a 74mm… hurrumph.
