Most of us lament the lenient sentences handed out to killer drivers so I thought this might show justice can be served sometimes.

It seems the long sentece was because he was convicted of multiple other offences but at least the grieving family and friends don’t have to see the killer merely slapped on the wrist and sent off to continue with their life consequence free.

    HarrogateSpa does it all the
HarrogateSpa does it all the time and David9694 seems like they’re keen to follow that example.

I think harassment is an appropriate description.

A line often taken by Cyclingmikey’s ‘phone using drivers.

I wouldn’t go that far, as I can only recall a few responses to NOtotheEU, and in this instance it was just a comment that referenced their username.

    There’s Brexit itself (bad

There’s Brexit itself (bad enough on its own terms) and then what Brexit has ushered in as its follow-through, that probably would not now be happening had Remain won.

Sounds like an opening to put all sorts of horrible hateful stuff in a user name – would you draw a line anywhere at all?

Consistent with their username, but not vocal about it and at least one post specifying no desire to get into a big Brexit debate.

I initially thought they could be one of our infamous trolls when I first saw the username, but their posts are interesting and informative at times – definitely not a troll in my opinion.

I would probably give them a ‘like’, so long as it wasn’t about disc brakes on road bikes.

    I don’t think it’s polite to

I don’t think it’s polite to respond to a user based purely on their username unless it’s to make a joke in friendly fashion. I think it’s better to respond to what people have written with the exception of the obvious trolls and I can’t recall NOtotheEU banging their drum about EU politics. Obviously, they are free to post anti-EU opinions which would then be appropriate to respond to, but otherwise it’s unfair.

Just thought i’d throw my oar in as an anti-Brexiter.

    Normally follow along but you
Normally follow along but you’ve lost me on this one:

“Cycling wise, an awful lot of people are perceiving increased driver anger on the roads. That has links to the referendum result and the consolidation of a right-wing “us” identity with cyclists being among among the out groups. It is costing lives and a lot of people who would cycle are quitting.  ”

…I’m feeling you reaching for the 1930s Germany comparison – do I have you right?

So far as the site goes,

So far as the site goes, “nototheeu” is the pavement parked Range Rover, I am the teed-off local putting a note on his windscreen and you are the onlooker telling me not to make a fuss.

As they say in all the best school playgrounds, “he started it, Miss”

    So no Brexit benefits then?

    So no Brexit benefits then?

what was Brexit about?  Not about observable facts, as you’ve made clear.

There’s too much going wrong, too many people suffering real hardship – none of it helped by our being “out” – for this luxurious philosophical vagueness.

If this right-wing coup hadn’t been swung by whatever means, we might not be looking at a government flailing around trying to pull something out of the wreckage that might be somehow be described as an upside with lifting motorway speed limits and slackening already pretty basic MOT requirements. The motor lobby want to go faster, reduce already meagre restrictions and this government is listening because it has nothing else.

Independent candidates stand in UK elections at every level, but very few get supported.  Not sure why you think the referendum was so worthwhile in this regard.

Your take about the negotiations and implementation is delusional – apart the whole proposition being flawed from the start, we turned down many opportunities offered by the EU to make it less worse all round.  Now, to them we are a bizarre irrelevance. We were never going to be allowed to have our cake and eat it – I don’t think those claiming to press for this believed it either.

I’d love to say full rejoin, but as a nation we need come to our senses en masse for that to realistic – how much hardship must there be before we do? But there I go again – you won’t ever change your mind.

What, a cyclist? Because frankly that’s all I care about within the context of a discussion forum on a cycling website.
