Most of us lament the lenient sentences handed out to killer drivers so I thought this might show justice can be served sometimes.

It seems the long sentece was because he was convicted of multiple other offences but at least the grieving family and friends don’t have to see the killer merely slapped on the wrist and sent off to continue with their life consequence free.

You reckon the problem is the implementation of Brexit – so where in your view should we now be at, had it been done in the right way?

Wait, what? I thought that was a red acorn?!

    Is this clearer?

An interesting point and why one can’t polarise leave/remain, left/right, capitalist/socialist positions as mutually exclusive.

Tony Benn of course campaigned in the 1975 EEC referendum alongside Enoch Powell on the “out” side, Jeremy Corbyn’s EU views are long known, and Mick Lynch and the RMT advised members to vote leave in 2016. Ken Clarke is very much a europhile and campaigned to join the single currency.

Indeed, but actually the humour in this has dissipated with re- viewing. And in this context if that’s how you see the UK population, that’s pretty drastic. (Doubtless people will identify localities they feel ARE mostly composed of such types)

And it’s missing “avid cyclist” too 😉 (“as an avid cyclist myself I’m appalled by the behaviour of…”).

What was Brexit about? For me

What was Brexit about? For me personally it was about what the EU is.

” . . . the EU . . . an agreement between the different capitalist classes of Europe in order to create the largest possible market and maximise their profits.” (Socialist Party). Not all Brexiteers are Conservative voting Daily Mail readers, the earliest convincing anti-EU arguments that I remember were from Tony Benn.

This is the only time I can recall having posted anything about Brexit. I’ve never bothered before because I’m aware I’m vastly outnumbered on here, no one is going to change their mind, a lot of these kind of discussions end in slanging matches and I’d rather talk about cycling and forget the s**t show Brexit has turned into.

If my user name offends you I apologise and if you want to post YES to the EU regularly then feel free but I have no wish to get into a protracted argument with you.

Is writing “yes to the EU”
Is writing “yes to the EU” really harassment?

I think “reduce people’s rights and funnel money towards themselves” is in the job description.

    Racist, misogynist, outing

Racist, misogynist, outing minor groups style of username.

There are far more political posts made by others which can be insulting to people who don’t share that view or the inane ‘yestotheeu’ one word replies.

Usernames such as BlindedByCyclistsBS simply signal an anticyclist outlook and are usually dealt with by a pile on.

I was a little bit confused
I was a little bit confused by all the FBPE, I also sounded out NOtotheEU as like HP I falsely suspected a troll. I don’t think the football-supporter political stuff (shouting for your favourite colour) is informative or amusing. (By contrast some of the trolling bizarreness and great put-downs were memorable).

So I’m all for following the political money/influence. If you wanna wear your affiliations in your username fine (not for me but I’ll ignore it) but political Punch and Judy comment threads are not my thing.

I’m sure I wouldn’t share politics with some here but I have shared some interesting discussions about cycling and transport in general with them and found them thoughtful. Each to their own triggers…

Sounds like an opening to put all sorts of horrible hateful stuff in a user name – would you draw a line anywhere at all?

I can’t see how putting a political stance in a username (or by including a soviet style hat in your avatar) is at all a problem as long as it’s not generally offensive (e.g. Nazis).

I do recall someone once made a fake alias of BehindTheBikeSheds (an infamous poster here that veered between being very angry and very insightful) in order to ridicule them by having posts that looked to be from them. I’d consider that abusive behaviour.

    You seem keen to portray
You seem keen to portray yourself as someone doing a public good.

An anti EU username is equivalent to illegal parking/driving in the examples you’ve given.

Opinions you disagree with are the equivalent of actual crimes…

Certainly having two posters do that must be very annoying.
