A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

The bbc are piss poor at
The bbc are piss poor at reportiing on rtc
You might remember this one https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp8107z61pno
originally it described an ebike hit and run as though the rider had killed someone. It wasn’t until a few paras that you find a driver rammed an ebike. unsurprisingly it wasn’t an ebike but a motorbike

Sorry to harp on this but it
Sorry to harp on this but it is important, still this evening the BBC are describing the victim as having been “killed by a car”. The poor little soul was not killed by a car, she was killed with a car, by a driver. If she had been knocked down by somebody on a bicycle and died as a result, would they have been described as “killed by a bicycle” or “killed by a cyclist”? Rhetorical question, we all know the answer. Complaint lodged with the BBC, for all the good it will do.

When the story was first written up last night (see my screenshot below) it was already known that a man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, so it was known that the car didn’t run away on its own and hit the child. Whatever other information becomes available, that is enough to say that a driver hit a child, not a car hit a child.

Cumbria Police arrested a 40
Cumbria Police arrested a 40-year-old man from Lancaster on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but said there was “no indication to suggest that this incident was a deliberate act”
Ah! The ‘he didn’t mean to do it’ dodge. The police/ CPS should be able to get it down to ‘careless’ at worst, and possibly even less if the driver comes up with ‘a medical incident and I have no recollection, but I’m fine now’

I agree, very little
I agree, very little improvement indeed. From the first paragraph:
BBC wrote:A man is being questioned over the death of one child and injuries to another who were hit by a car which crashed through a fence and on to a sports pitch. The man could just be a witness for all the indication of his responsibility, or his handbrake could’ve failed while he was not in the car and it ran away down the slope. At a minimum it should read “A man is being questioned over the death of one child and injuries to another who were hit by a car which he was driving when he crashed through a fence and onto a sports pitch.”

With motor traffic though (well, plus “human population and prosperity growth”) it’s always like the children’s song – it starts “A car parked near a windmill in Old Amsterdam…” and ends “There’s nobody there now – but a whole lot of cars!”

Is that the ongoing “how very dare the person who privately owns that land we’ve all parked on for years even though it’s not a car park, turn it into a formal car park and make us pay to use it!” story?
why yes, yes it is

I like how the picture shows
I like how the picture shows cars parked where there’s no dropped kerbs.
Also, another BE story where drivers are so awful that comments get turned off.
