A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

As a Peterborough resident, I have to say that this chap is probably in the top 25% of citizens, with respect to driving ability and consideration for other road users.
This driving performance and the stash of illegal cigarettes are examples of what PCC call “vibrancy”.
Shame the driver failed to tick the commonly filled boxes of “no insurance”, “provisional licence holder”, “driving while banned”.Hirsute

“Easy for you to say, it just isn’t safe these days what with illegals and bikes everywhere. It takes far longer to drive my gdaughters the 200 yds to school than walk, but that’s a sacrifice loving gparents make. I’m lucky my blue badge allows me to park on the chevrons outside the gate, but for others it’s a daily battle for their kids survival.”
Unclear how the children get to his house.
A blue badge is not a licence to park anywhere and you should not park on “School ‘keep clear’ markings during the hours shown on a yellow no-stopping plate.”

Self-riding bicycles also now
Self-riding bicycles also now available:
‘The restriction is “for safety reasons, and to prevent overcrowding, due to the significant number of bikes taking part”, according to the operators.
Bikes will also not be allowed to travel on the network to Clapham Junction station until 10:00.’

Spetchley Road residents say
Spetchley Road residents say people park on their driveways
When challenged, residents have received ‘death stares’, ‘a load of abuse’ or defensive comments like: “I’ll only be five minutes. What’s your problem?”
(Also: “same time tomorrow then”)

Hmm… I’m not a great fan of these though mostly because due to poor design / construction or better suspension they don’t seem to do a great job of slowing drivers.
I guess it depends on your bike – and on skill of course. However I’m riding bikes with racks and normally some kind of (fragile / heavy/ both) luggage (I do a fair bit of “incidental shopping” on other journeys.)
I’m sometimes riding a recument so can’t use legs as shock absorbers (though on the most recent I’ve full suspension).
Not a defect in the concept but at least in Edinburgh execution or maintenance is poor. After a few months to a year or two these are often uneven, or craters have developed in places.

Yup – just make that cut-
Yup – just make that cut- through wide enough for a 3-wheeler / wheelchair with hand-cycle attachment / other adapted cycle (eg. LTN1/20 has a “design vehicle” dimensions guide) – or maybe even people cycling side by side! and you’re good. I’d slightly prioritise infra over policing (we need both) – it is always on duty.Bungle_52
mdavidford wrote:Selfish residents trying to stop people driving past their houses at 70mph – it’s just traffic ‘finding a way’.All for the 20mph limit but against speed bumps. I’m yet to find a speed bump that slows down drivers but doesn’t slow down cyclists, they seem to be designed to do the exact opposite. I think chicanes with a cut through are a much better solution but even better, just enforce the speed limit.

Irresponsible’ drivers force
Irresponsible’ drivers force another Stoke-on-Trent road to shut
Concerns had been raised over safety
“Whilst we have been carrying out this essential work, there have been several instances of motorists not following the one-way order that is in place, causing risk to other road users, pedestrians and our workforce. So that we can keep everyone safe whilst we complete this section of work, we’ll need to close Birches Head Road between the junction of Harrop Street and the junction of Gleneagles Crescent/Bradford Terrace. We then expect to move the closure between the junctions of Gleneagles/Bradford Terrace to the junction with Fairhaven Grove.”
